Hi,

>> then I zoom in the drawing, I lost all objects after zooming

What does mean "lost all objects"?

Did they just disappear and after command _REGEN they are present again

They reappear when you zoom out

They are really erased, so closing the drawing and reopen the DWG does not show these objects again?

Or is it just the fact, that they are not selected any more (which is how AutoCAD works by default with selected objects pushed outside the screen-area (regen area).

What version of Autocad are you using? If you are using Autocad 2017 and are a subscription license or maintenance plan customer does installing Fall Update 2017.1 solve your issue? If you are a subscription license customer or maintenance plan customer you can download this update for Autocad 2017 from your subscription account or the Autodesk Desktop App. Below are a few links that describe the new features included in Fall Update 2017.1. You should look at the Off-screen selection section of the new features.

Heidi Hewett's Autocad Blog

http://blogs.autodesk.com/autocad/autocad-2017-fall-update/

Autocad 2017.1 Update preview guide

http://blogs.autodesk.com/autocad/wp-content/uploads/sites/35/2016/10/AutoCAD-2017_1-Update-Preview-Guide.pdf

As a side note for those who use Autocad LT reading this, Fall Update 2017.1 now includes txt2mtext as a Core Autocad LT command for those that did not know. In my 18 years of using AutoCAD, zooming in while in window selection mode causes the loss of any selected entities off of the screen. The window selection only applies to what is visible when closing it.

Still using 2016 version, lets see what happen 2with 2017.

Regarding the other post, what I mean is that I pick one corner of the window, then zoom and then, while the window selection tool is still active, I pick the opposite corner of the window. I understand what you say when you select both corners before a zoom, but my question is if this happen when you select the last corner after the zooming.

Regards

Off-screen Selection With the AutoCAD 2017 Update you can begin a selection window in one part of your drawing and then pan and zoom to another part while maintaining selection of the off-screen objects!

New system variable: SELECTIONOFFSCREEN

I am a new user, about 1 year. I have the same issue. I have had to reinstall my Autocad a few times due to system issues. anyway, for the last month, when i select some objects, about 20, i start from the upper left, click, move mouse AND zoom to the bottom right of the selection. lets assume, i see the bottom 10 of the 20 when i click on the bottom right mark of my selection. when i zoom out, the top 10 are no longer selected. I have verified this behaviour on multiple different drawings. I have not (to my knowledge) changed any settings since day 1, about a year ago.

now, if i select the 20 from a zoomed out perspective and zoom in to view then out back to see all 20, they are all still selected. The behaviour is when zooming, after the first click for selecting is made, where you end up selecting on the second click, ONLY the items in the view at the time are still selected. So when you are zooming while selecting, anything not in view is 'deselected' upon the click of the 2nd point.

Thanks for any and all help.

i have 2016 version by the way. I did try to fix autocad where it takes forever at 'checking liscence' while starting the application. but i had done that before the behaviour started. but i wanted to mention it in case someone finds a correlation.

I did upgrade to 2017. I can not seem to get SELECTIONOFFSCREEN to appear/work for me. If I am correct, i merely start typing the variable in commands, correct? If so, it doesnt appear.

I made a video of my experience. I remember I had 2017 installed before but went back to 2016 as my group all uses it, little did I or they know about this trick. Once I have it nailed down, I will be able to convince them to update to 2017 and set the correct variable, if that is the issue.

Hi,

>> i have 2016 version by the way

What you describe (after zoom some objects are not selected any more) is a normal behavior for all AutoCAD versions before 2017 update 1.1

Let's drop all of the cliche's and answer the problem. ACAD has been programming this product since the 80's. The programmers have nothing left to do except dream up more and more BS. It is inevitable that more and more problems are going to come up.

For the people that are saying it has always had this problem is blowing smoke where it doesn't belong. This problem did not exist 10 years ago. I have been working with ACAD since 93. Yep, since the last century. The last decent version of ACAD was 2008. Greed drives everyone to make it fresh and keep selling the same 1 and 0's with a few more problems. Autodesk has produced a horrible program that peaked many years ago. The average human is too dumb to remember and a lot are new to ACAD. Get used to it. Bend over and take it up the ... The program is near worthless, but don't worry, it is still going to cost you thousands per year. I wonder how long this post will last. The truth cuts like a rzr.

It did and it did always, up to 2017 update 1 ... as you can see in that video (from someone average).

But feel free and show us that it worked.

Just turned on my 2005 XP computer. Opened the largest job I have ever done. By the way, CAD opened fully in just a few seconds. Screaming fast. I single clked several items all over the page, zoomed with the scroll wheel, did transparent zooms, did a transparent zoom extents and a very close up zoom, all the while clicking on various dimensions, lines and text. Not a single thing was lost. The job was over 250,000 square feet. It showed 11,989 entities and 6263 blocks. You can fool some of the people all of the time. You can't fool me concerning AutoCad. 2008 version was the last decent production program. It is now geared to the computer gamers that care nothing for production. Research the owner and the original group that started ACAD. It is all about the money.
