Hi @Anonymous,

A drawing would help to determine what is happening. When you list the conduit line does it say it is Bylayer or Continuous? Does it just visually look different or does the layer or entities actually indicate that they are something other than Bylayer?

Issue with non-continuous Linetype reverting back to continuous in Modelspace

I am drawing a 2D floor plan. I have three layers: WALLS with continuous lines, CONDUIT with zig-zag lines, and DIMENSIONS with dashed lines. Each layer has its Linetype set to the type that I just mentioned.

I went to add a new section of wall to the WALLS layer by first double-clicking to make sure WALLS was the active layer, drew a line, then went to the internet for a second to look up dimensions. When I went back to AutoCAD I noticed that all three layers, including the non-continuous CONDUIT and DIMENSIONS layers appeared with continuous lines. Strangely, when I would click on an individual dimension, the Linetype was still listed as either dashed2 or zig-zag, not continuous.

This is all occurring in ModelSpace and I am running AutoCAD 2016. Has anyone had this problem/knows what is going on?

AutoCAD will display non-continuous lines as continuous when the view is skewed. A couple things to check.

Verify your linework have the same start end end elevations (z-coordinate). NOTE: Polylines can only carry a single elevation, so this is not an issue for them.

Start the VIEW command, and restore the "Preset Views > Top" view.

Basically the linework has to be parallel to the view itself, otherwise non-continuous lines will appear continuous.

I'm new to AutoCAD, but would those have an effect on a 2D floor plan? I should have wrote that this was all in 2D, I've since edited the post.

I've most often encountered this issue with 2D drawings. The geometry becoming skewed (different start and end elevations) is less common, but certainly something I have seen.

Try restoring the Top view first. If that doesn't work, there's a chance it has to do with the geometry in your drawing. You may want to try the FLATTEN command to make sure everything is on a 0 elevation in your drawing.

Post the drawing (or enough of it) so that we can see. Otherwise, we are guessing.

Probably an LTSCALE issue between a scaled paperspace viewport and model space. Search help for the different ways LTSCALE is handled in each space and controlled with LTSCALE, MSLTSCALE and PSLTSCALE.
