Simple way to add text on 3D cylinder?

Is there a way to add text to a round 3D object without having to draft the text? I'm looking to add a specific font to a cylinder with the text being flat and flush to the cylinder.I'm also going to need to edit the text regularly.

There isn't any way or command that can do it with autocad.

Depending on your final need for text on a cylinder you could use a material to show the text.

I think the material method is the way to go. How can I go about using material to make nice centered text as shown in the attached picture I made with MS Paint?:

Also, what are some 3D programs that can easily add such text to 3D objects for me?

You can use MS Paint to create an image that contains the text you want to wrap around a cylinder. Save the image as a jpg or png file.

Search AutoCAD Help for materials for instructions on how to define and apply a material. The topic " About Creating and Modifying Materials" is a good place to start. Refer also to "About Adjusting Material Mapping On Objects and Faces" and the reference to Cylindrical mapping.

Before recommending a CAD program it is helpful to know what your final goal is. For example, is it a picture or animation or a model that can be sent to a 3D printer or CNC machine or something else?

you could explode the text then region it. once you use the region command you could then union each letter individually then extrude it and subtract it from your cylinder, which would give it an engraved look.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I ended up just using 'mtext' to create the text I wanted; then I exploded and extruded the text; from there I used two cylinders and the subtract command to create my 3D text of 0.01 thickness.

the final result is good BUT you will not be able to edit it as you ask for.

My final goal is for a picture.
