Damaged imported dimension style

When I import a annotative dimension style using express > dimension > DimStyle import it corrupts everything, from the name to the values

Doesn't matter if I export Text Style Name Only or if I export Full Text Style Information

Also, doesn't matter if I import overwriting or not the existent styles

The damaged dimension style has a weird name, like 000000001A3F4D5B

The damaged dimension style loses the annotative feature

Even after modifying the imported damaged style, like making text annotative, or marking Annotative on the "adjust" tab, the text doesn't appear (probably something I can't see has changed)

Try importing the dim style from an existing drawing using Design Center and see if the same thing happens. We use Design Center all the time to import text, dim and mleader styles and have no issues.

Hi,

I suggest to open the CAD file where the Dim-style you need exist.then copyclip (Ctrl+C) one dimension line that follow that dim-style. pasteclip it (Ctrl+V) in new and empty CAD file.now see if it's solved or not. if it's ok ,open the CAD file where you want to work and paste it again.

Guys

Even if the Design Center method works (Copy and paste method already confirmed to work), both methods have the problem of being unable to export to another computer without hassle

I'd really appreciate if the cause of the bug be found, because this express tool feature is the most intuitive, and behaves exactly like any export/import tool from other softwares behave

By the way, does it happen only here ? Can you reproduce ?

I can't get the DIMEX command to save a .dim file in ACAD 2017 even though the dialog comes up asking for a save location.

Since Express Tools have been around since before annotative text the DIMIM and DIMEX routines don't include all the system variables now available for dimension styles. The Express Tools commands are as-is and are not being updated so some commands won't work the way they did back in R14 when they were created.

From Express Tools Help: "Important: Not all current dimension variables are supported by this tool."

Hi @LucasBS,

I have never used this as Design Center does this already. However, I started exploring the tool.

I found on my system that I had to create a DIM file (text) on my computer before using the tool. Then I was able to export the style to it. Then, I opened the file using Notepad and renamed the style. Then it imported properly.

I did find that it did not import and retain the Annotative property. Since this is a legacy routine I am not surprised by the lack of support for a feature that didn't exist at the time it was developed. I suggest using Design Center to avoid all this work.

Hi @LucasBS,

As long as you can access the file that contains the dimension from both computers then Design Center works great!

It appears this import / export tool for dimstyles is still not resolved. I still get the same issues you found in 2017. This for a few slow and manual process to update many different prototypes and drawings.

Thanks I am happy to use the old thread as it is the same issue. No point starting a new thread just because the software hasn't been fixed.

Agree. We have a patch here that worked for me. No reason to open a new thread for the EXACT problem (no reason beyond visibility, as pointer by our coleague)

If the solution is here then why ask the same question? If a different solution is needed by a different person a new thread should be opened so that new user can mark the solution. That is all.
