Display while commandoing measure

Hello all,

We notice the display while 'measuring' sometimes is different.

Drawing A (left printscreen): Before defining the endpoint, the measurement always appears on the display (not necessarily the middle).

Drawing B (right printscreen): Before defining the endpoint, the measurement always appears at the middle between startpoint and cursor (not necessarily displayed).

Is there a variable or a setting which we can change? The left printscreen is the version we prefer (see below).

We can't find a difference between our own drawings.

Hello timmy,

The variable You are looking for is called DYNMODE, you can easily set it up to value 2 or 3, that will result in measurements appearing like on the first screenshot.

Hello again timmy,

You're correct, DYNMODE is a system variable, and therefore should not affect different drawings.

That leads to conclusion there could be something with one of Your drawings. My first guess would be, that "measurements staying on screen" tracking can be disrupted, when You change Your views when using ViewCube.I'm attaching example below:

If you have it on, try going back to Standard View with "North" pointing upwards.

If You have disabled ViewCube for any reason, you can simply Left-Click the [Top] text on the Top-Left corner of Model space and Click "Top" (even if it's already clicked), to reset it to standard view.

If that doesn't solve the issue with Dynamic dimension display, then I would suggest trying to copy the Drawing B to new Drawing.

Please let us know about the results.

One might be set to -3 while the other is 3, so after typing in DYNMODE actually type 3 don't just accept what is shown, which may be -3.

Thancks Pawel, that's indeed the reason why the drawings are not similar.

For yours info, in my drawings it only functionates by changing the ViewCube (just clicking on [TOP]), not by changing the text on the Top-Left-corner.

But.., do you have any idea how to change it the opposite way 😉 ?

After all, I did the ViewCube-change at drawing A and at drawing B. Result: drawing A changed (but I didn't save), but that was the drawing we prefered... (I hoped drawing B should change 😉 )

Or should it still be a disruption in drawing A? In that way I may send it as a proposal to Autodesk because it's quite handy.

Indeed the [DYNMODE]-value might be different from what is shown.

But changing it a few times didn't solve the problem.

Hello timmy,

While I'm glad that we found the origin of the problem, I do not recall any option allowing user to fix it.

I have done a similar test myself with a simple rectangle, and after ANY view rotation using ViewCube, I wasn't able to make the measurement dynamically adjust (to be visible on screen) like it took place before rotation.

The only temporary solution for the problem I noticed is either UNDO directly after ViewCube rotation, or copying the drawing contents into new empty drawing. After you place object in new drawing, this problem seems to disappear until You use ViewCube again.

I believe that regardless of ViewCube changes, measurement display should not be disrupted (So it should work like originally in Drawing A). I encourage You to forward the problem to Autodesk, perhaps someone else will look at this issue, and know about some tricky solution, that might be applied.

Hi Pawel,

I simulated your test: the 'acad'-template have the same 'problem'.

Normally we never use the ViewCube-button, but it's possible it happend for instance by similar action : [panning by mouse-wheel] + [CTRL]-button.

I will forward it to Autodesk.

It seems to be a 'bug'...

I hope a 'sreencast' still give solution.

So, now that i'm able to replicate this, I've been having a look. But, I'm not able to find any workaround for it, except pressing the mousewheel and pan sideways to display the dimension 😞

I'm sorry to say that this is all I can do at this moment.
