topic Link a Viewport to a Specific Layer State in AutoCAD Forum

I have a plan set which is one drawing with nearly 100 layout tabs (not a method of my choosing). There are various groups of discipline types, each one spanning across several layout tabs and viewports.

I have saved a layer state for each different discipline type. So basically if the layers change for a group of drawings, I update the layer state on the first sheet, and use that to update the layers on the remaining sheets in that discipline type by manually going into each viewport, opening the layer states manager, and restoring the desired layer state.

My question...

Is there a way to link viewports to specific layer states so that if I update the layer state on another layout tab, it will AUTOMATICALLY update the layer states in viewports which are linked to it?

The behavior I am looking for is similar to how a drawing which contains an xref will automatically update when the xref is changed and saved.

Hi,

>> Is there a way to link viewports to specific layer states so that if I update the layer state

>> on another layout tab, it will AUTOMATICALLY update the layer states in viewports

>> which are linked to it?

Sorry no, not without development.

>> The behavior I am looking for is similar to how a drawing which contains an xref

>> will automatically update when the xref is changed and saved.

By default if you edit a referenced file while you have the "master" open you get a small box in the lower-right corner of your AutoCAD application window which shows you the a referenced file was updated, you just need to commit that small dialog to get your display updated.
