hi,

New-ish here, but if you change the DELOBJ sys variable to 0, it preserves the original geometry when you extrude, so it's easier to modify later.

It's not particularly fast, but you block the 2D shape, extrude it in block editor... and if you need to change the shape later you'll have three steps instead of one. In block editor, delete the extrusion, modify the 2D shape (which remains behind), and then re-extrude. It's the shortest way I know. I hope there's a faster way out there.

Hi All,

I understand I am unable to extrude a block... but what I am trying to do is design a 2d face make it a block then extrude that and make that another block.

I am trying to do this so I am quickly able to modify a 2d image and it would update the remaining blocks, with the change.

Is there a way to do this?

None of which I am aware. If you have the 3D model why do you need a 2d image?? Simply slice the 3D model in a viewport and annotate in PS.

Hi @Anonymous,

I see that you are visiting as a new member. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

If you create your 2D block and then use Boundary to extrude your 3d shape, does that work?

Also, you could explode your 2D block to work with it and then reblock it with the same name. This should redefine all of your other blocks with the same name.

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question.

or create the 2D block and REFEDIT it to 3D.

Hi All,

Thank you for all your inputs.

I think I combined a few of these answers

I drew the block in 2D and then inserted it into the 3d block edit. I then used the presspull to get the appropriate solid.

I haven't tried/played with refedit yet and I will try it, as im sure this drawing will continue to evolve.

Thank you!
