Xref missing after ExportLayout

I have never been able to use the ExportLayout command for a layout and have it also include the XREF file. It always seems to work, but leaves out the background drawing which is important to the export. I have attached my typical file and want to export E1.2 and was wondering if I am doing something wrong so that in the future I can send out drawings to contractors who want to create as-built drawings based on my sheets.

Hi @Retirement_Bound,

Exportlayout will not grab the Xref files. I usually do an Insert Bind first and then do the export. Here is an article that describes the Bind.

If you take the zip file I sent. I selected the XREF file and hit
properties and it said Bound Space= YES

I then unlocked my XREF layer.

Then went to my external references and selected the xref to right click and
selected Bind Insert.

Then went to the E2.1 layout and did the Layoutexport.

File opened and there isn't any bound background.

I have heard the same directions from other, but have never been able to
make it work. That is why I sent an example file this time 🙂

Hi @Retirement_Bound,

If you want to share a single file with a layout with your consultant, you will have to Bind>Insert from Xref Manager. ExportLayout however, will not grab the modelspace contents from your existing Layout. I ran Audit, and then created a new layout and was able to see the model contents in the resulting file from the ExportLayout.

Maybe you can video all your steps and show me that it worked?

It still doesn't work for me.

I am saving the exportlayout to a different folder, could that be a problem
based on my bound file?

Hi Bryant,

Sure, let's see if this helps:

I opened each file and ran Audit as the xrefs didn't want to load on my side.
I then created a new Layout in the master file.
I copy/pasted everything from layout E1.2 to the new layout
I then created a new Pagesetup and applied it to the layout I created
Next I ran exportlayout and got the correct data into a new file.

Note, I did not have to Bind the xref as I originally thought. The Xref was converted automatically to a block.
