Can't measure the drawings in scale on layouts

Hi everyone. English is not my first language so bare with me. So here is my problem...

While measuring some itens from viewports on a layout I realized that everything that's inside a viewport, when I use the command distance, it shows me the real dimension, not the the dimension on the layout.

For example: Here is a layout. For context the layout has the dimension of an A4 sheet (0.297x0.210m).

In this layout I have a viewport (inside the red line) and a rectangle that was drawn on the layout (inside the yellow line).

When I mesure the rectangule inside the yellow line (using the comand distance), autocad gives me the real dimension on the sheet:

But when I mesure anything from the viewport ( this viewport is scaled to 1:100 )it gives me the real Dimension of the item (in this case i'm measuring the door = blue line):

Considering that the viewport is scaled 1:100 it shoulb be 0.011 not 1.1.

Note that i'm not inside the viewport; the viewport is not selected in anyway.

This is the first time this happens to me. Does anyone knows what happened?

Note: Just realize that if i open the same file on another computer this does not happen.

I don't have it to check at the moment, but last I recall, if you use object snap to pick your measurement points, from PS, you get MS results. If you eyeball it (IOW, just pick two points in the layout), you get layout results.

Correct, if i eye ball it it gives the right measure. But again, if i open the same file on another computer, even with the object snap on, it will give the correct measure (the one scaled). so this problem only happens on my computer.

I can't send the file but again. The problem is not the file because other people are able to measure it correctly. So I think it's something from program.

Inside AutocAD, start ABOUT command then hare a screenshot of the pop-up here.

Hi @maria.m.valle

Go to Options=>User Preferences Tab=>Associative Dimensioning=>Uncheck 'Named Make New Dimensions Associative'

Uncheck this box.

What are you measuring?

Are you measuring objects which have been drawn? Or are you measuring previous dimension lines?

Start with a clean drawing. Delete ALL previous dimensions.

I would make sure on the other computer when you open the same drawing to set osmode to 0 before running the DIST command in Pspace

I confess to being curious: What would be the reason for measuring a paper distance laid over elements in the model in a Viewport? I have never run into this issue, but only because I don't ever do that, and can't think of why I would ever want to.

Dist:

Mesures the projected point on layout

Dimensions:

While Dimassoc is on (2 abd default) measure between the real snaped object points.

You answered to chicago, but double check it.

Command: DIMASSOC

Value 2

Dimlinear, select both point by using object snap.

It shouldn't, except your dimassoc is not set to 2

So you are are working with the default (and prefered) setting for dimension the first time.

Dimassoc for dimensions and Osmode(your running objectsnaps) are saved in your profile, not in the drawing.

I notice my mistake to late.

I have tried to change th parameters of dimassoc and osmode and nothing.

Really hard to follow your short answers, but I try it again.

Your PC

a) While dimassoc=2 and using the object snaps? This is good, right and to prefer for real object dimensioning (for measuring in paperunits, use command Dist).

b) If your dimassoc is set to 1 or you are not using the object snaps? There is a problem

Share a screencast!

Open the sample file you used also on the second PC,

in model tab or inside a viewport, start recording (the whole program window) and

show the dimassoc setting first, in your case the setting to create stupid dimensions (1)

command DIMLINEAR, create a dimension.

switch to in Paperspace, create a dimension for the same object

Please work slowly, so we can follow all the details in this screencast.

Just pick the Viewport boundary and look at its Properties.
