Hi all,

I found a solution for my problem. I opened an existing drawing in which I knew all the settings were already correct, deleted all items from the drawing, saved a copy of the drawing, and used COPYBASE to copy everything from the drawing I was working with into this newly saved file. Now the snaps are all good.

I had thought of this solution earlier, but couldn't be sure of a drawing where I knew the settings would be correct, until thinking of the drawing I thought of just now. For the past few hours I was using a temporary "non-solution" solution. But what I just described above is a permanent solution.

I am still curious if anyone knows what would cause the Grip Snaps to not line up with the Grid... just confusing. But my problem is solved.

Thanks.

Michael Murrin

Hello,

I am working in a drawing and I normally use Grid Snaps set to 1/2 inch intervals for both X and Y. I turned Grid Snaps on and the Grid on. The Grid Snaps are not lined up with the Grid. Does anyone know how to fix this? This has never happened to me in another drawing. Attached is a screenshot of a square I drew using Grid Snaps. Each side of the square is 1/2 inch long, which is the length I have my Grid Snaps set to. In other words, the 4 corners of the square indicate where the Grid Snaps snap to. You can see that these do not line up with the origin. I have already set the UCS origin to 0,0,0. The Grid lines up with the UCS origin. But Grid Snaps (set to 1/2 inch for both X and Y) do not line up with the UCS origin.

As you can see, the Grid is indeed lined up with the UCS origin. But the Grid Snaps are not lined up with the UCS origin, or with the Grid. I am confused as to why this is happening, and if anyone knows of a way to fix it.

I prefer not to create a new drawing, because doing so changes some settings in the bottom pane, even after I set my profile as current in the new drawing.

Best,

Michael Murrin

Edit: Should have clarified, I am in AutoCAD 2016.

Is this perhaps a display issue? Try toggling your Hardware Acceleration in GRAPHICSCONFIG to see if that makes a difference.

Hi john.vellek,

Unfortunately that did not work. In GRAPHICSCONFIG I turned Hardware Acceleration off, then did a REGENALL, and the problem was still there, then I went back into GRAPHICSCONFIG and turned Hardware Acceleration back on, then did a REGENALL, and the problem is unfortunately still there.

Hi @Anonymous,

I opened your file and checked your your grid settings. I have to admit that I had to think back for a moment as I haven't used GRID since version 2.52 🙂

I set the Grid Snap spacing at 3/8", then clicked on Grid Snap. Everything seems to work fine.

I am glad you figured out a way to move forward on this issue.

To anyone else who stumbles upon this thread: I would suggest that you check the Z coordinates and/or elevation of the objects you are trying to snap. I found that my objects were snapping to the correct X/Y locations, but did not appear to line up with the observed grid locations because they were not all at 0 elevation. This was due to me copying/pasting 3-D objects into my layout drawing and then using object snapping to snap my lines to points on these objects that had non-zero elevation. Once I set Z = 0 or elevation = 0 on all the applicable lines, they appeared to snap directly on the displayed grid.
