Screen Freezes when Selecting Ortho or Polar

I use my function keys to shift between ortho and polar. After I hit a function key the screen freezes. I am forced to select something outside of my screen (for example selecting an icon on my toolbar) for the screen to unfreeze and continue to draft. Any suggestions on how I can prevent my screen from freezing up?

I have been having other issues with my screen as well. For example when I am in paper space the screen wants to 'bounce' up and down ever so slightly.

Try turning off Hardware Acceleration.

Type: 3dConfig

Next to Hardware Acceleration click Off

This is a known issue with AutoCAD 2017 and Windows 10. There is a hotfix available to address the problem.

Hardware Acceleration was already turned off.

I was running 2016, but went ahead and downloaded 2017. I am having the same issue even with the Hotfix on 2017. I did migrate my settings over. There must be a change I made to my settings that is causing this issue.

What happens if you create a new local administrative user and logon with that account? Does the same behavior continue?

I am not completely sure what you mean by a new local administrative user. However, I did notice when I used this file on another's desktop AutoCAD the same behavior occurred. I never had this issue until about two weeks ago and the only thing we did was add a different virus protection software. I have attached a dwg file that I am experiencing issues with on both 2016 and 2017.

The issue is while drafting, pressing F8 or F10 locks my computer up and I have to click on the task bar to get back in AutoCAD. Also, the Esc button does not work to escape out of the command.

Hi Jon,

Are you using Windows 10? I am guessing an update has caused this as I haven't seen an AV solution cause this issue.

Can you check your Windows updates to see if you got some updates two weeks ago that might have initiated this?

Just to make sure, do you have any add-ins running?

Can you try a Reset Settings to Default?
