Hi @Anonymous,

I don't see any text in the titleblock either. Is there any way for me to know that it is actually still there and hasn't inadvertently been removed in some fashion? I don't know how to help on this.

I opened you r file in several versions of AutoCAD (2014-2017) and the drawing appeared the same in each one.

Hi Everyone,

I have been having a massive issue using the annotative scaling in autocad as of late but today suddenly all the text vanished off a project im working on in the layouts viewports are still showing. I have tried many things with trying to get it back eg. make the text normal, have all annotation objects visable, start a new file and xref the other project in, nothing i can see online is anyway usefull to it. Can anyone here give me a hand with what is going on? its really fustrating.

I first noticed an issue creeping when the hatches of certain types (gravel, earth, etc.) wont show at a certain scale either, eg works at 5 scale but vanishes any lower. This issue doesnt seem to show in civil 3d so there must be some setting thats gone nuts in my autocad 2017 if anyone can help??

Cheers,

Shane

Try Toggling ALLONVISIBLE (https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/ENU/AutoCAD-Core/files/GUID-D8E50F6F-FB71-4A20-A3B9-7701C0518B81-htm.html)

If that doesn't make the text visible, i might see if perhaps its on a layer that is no longer visible.

Tried that variable and that didn't work. Turn on all the layers that didn't work. Unfroze all VP and nonVP layers. Iv opened up a previous version and to see and they are visible on that, i don't want to loose a days work over this so ain't going back to that. Tried coping over that text and its not visible

I have attached a file that posing similar issues to the main file, dont think i would be aloud to share that one. This will open in paperspace and none of the text is showing in the bottem corner. In model space there should be gravel hatching in the middle that is not showing either. if you can solve it your a better man then me haha

I had a feeling that might happen alright so here is a picture of whats happening on my end. On the left i have Civil 3D open and on the right my standard AutoCAD. They both have the same project open on the same layout page but as you can see the gravel hatch is not visible in the autocad one but is in the civil (and yours going by your screen shot). Also on the screen layout screen shot you sent there isn't any text in where the title block is that too is happening with my which is the initial problem.

Hi, I openned your DWG and created a viewport in the drawing area of the border on Layout1. I zoomed in to each tunnel view and noticed that the text that I see in model space was not visible (as you initially described).

I toggle the icon for ANNOALLVISIBLE and the text shows up.

I think this is what was initially intended in the first reply but the variable name was a little short.

The icon is to the left of the viewport scale on the bottom right of ACAD. The vieport scale is only visible when the viewport is selected or active but the icon you need is always visible.

Sorry blyoung you are looking in the wrong place for the missing text. Its not in the view ports its on the layout page itself. I have attached an image indicating the issue

I think the previous image i attached shows clearly the issue with the hatching

Sorry to have misunderstood. The border/title block that is on the layout appears to be exploded when I open the drawing. Howevere when I insert the title block that is saved as a block in your drawing I still see no text. I open the block for editing and there's the text.

I looked at the layers used in your block and I'm inclined to remind you of a principal that I was taught MANY years ago... All objects in blocks should be built on the zero layer and be set to adopt properties "ByLayer".

Once I selected everything in the block editor and placed it all on the zero layer I closed and save the block and everything is visible (in the exploded and un-exploded locations.

I'm looking at the hatch issue.

BTW... Since 1985 I never saw anyone use a dash before layer names. I see that it sorts before the zero layer but is there any other usage or implication to the addition of a dash?

When I turn on the ANNOALLVISIBLE icon the hatch appears just fine. BTW... the viewport is locked when I activate it so I unlock it to zoom where I want.

Also, the hatch is on the -Text layer. Ugh, so was some of the text from the titleblock. Sorry to be a pain but that's just poor block creation.

Yes I never use leave the title block as an actual block in my drawings as there is too many things to change let alone I was always taught to not have them left as blocks and this never became an issue until yesterday. Yes it showed for me in the block editor but what i have now cant be changed in the title block on the actual project as there is no block. The text was there last week but now it has vanished as of yesterday, never had an issue with it before. I was also taught NOTHING should be on layer 0 and should be on a layer by itself, only time you would place items in a block on layer 0 was when you knew it was gonna be shown multiple times with different properties.

Yes that is just the way it was when I started in where I work and didn't want to change that.

I tried what you tired with the hatch and that still didn't work even with the viewport unlocked and the ANNOALLVISIBLE switched on. It was on that layer as I had to recreate it quickly. The text is on the -Text layer because it is text and will not change so not really poor block creation as it will stay the same each time used

Shane,

We all learn a little differently and most ways aren't truly wrong.

I think most AutoCAD pro's might agree that blocks are best built on the zero layer with any properties of objects set as necessary.

e.g. "A Border & Title Block" block would have border lines with lineweight of .9mm or as desired. The etx objects should be .3mm lineweight or as desired, and might have color associated. A compass rose or corporate logo might also be in the block. The block itself is built on the zero layer but when you insert the block you choose the layer it will be on in the drawing (not the same as the root objects as built).

To make a title block most usable users can employ Attributes so that when they insert the block or double-click it the attribute editor will permit entry of data. I'm including a sample template file so you can dissect it to see what I mean.

Just s different way of working. Of course we have to follow most of what our office dictates but occasionally we can convince them that it's 2017 (hehe).

As you said we all do things differently.

Plus I dont see how a block will cause an issue to something that doesnt have a block in it or to a set of hatching that is created completely apart from the block

Audit reports numerous errors in the file. Perhaps that is at the root of this issue. If you can see all the entities in Civil 3D I suggest you do some clean up there and then exporttoautocad to see if that fixes the text issue.

Hi John,

I tried that in both CAD and civil but that didnt seem to fix the hatch or the text issues. I brought back an older version where the text is visible and used the designcenter to drag two of the layouts in. Once I did that the text suddenly appeared again which I thought was rather strange

I manage to fix the hatch issue by doing a complete reinstallation of the software and now it seems to be doing the correct thing. The invisible text is still an issue

Hi @john.vellek,

The last one of his files I looked at (see above) had the text in the title block... To see the text I had to insert the border/title block from the binsert menu and then edit the block. In the block editor I selected everything and openned properties. I narrowed the properties focus to text and changed the layer for all text objects to zero. It all showed up. When I exited the block editor, saving the block, all text was visible. The original title block was exploded but the text showed in that as well as in the one I inserted.

I'm not really tracking this anymore but I saw your inquiry and wanted to let you know how I found the text. BTW... The stone hatch also showed up after I changed the layer for the text. I didn't pursue that either.

Cheers,

Blaine
