Lock layer to the back

Hi,

I was wondering if there is a command that allows to lock all the elements of a particular layer to the back (considering the drawing order).

When drawing a section from a plant I use to create a layer of a dark colour (not to be printed) with the basic lines which I would like to be sat lock permanently to the back.

Hi and Welcome to AutoDesk Forum,

If i understand your need right... do the follow:

- select one of these element that you want to set it back (without any command )then right click.

- from the dialog appear select Select Similar.

- Now..all items exist in the selected layer are now ready to send to back from draworder toolbar.(see below image)

Note: SELECTSIMILAR command have a settings that it's good to know.

Command: SELECTSIMILAR
Select objects or [SEttings]:

Hi,

1. You can set the selectsimilarmode to <2> which will select all objects in a layer

2. Invoke Selectsimilar command, Select the layer which you want to change the draworder

3. Then you set the draw order by right clicking and send to back.

4. Then turn the layer off from the menu.

SELECTSIMILARMODE

0 Object type
1 Color
2 Layer
4 Linetype
8 Linetype scale
16 Lineweight
32 Plot style
64 Object style, including text styles, dimension styles, and table styles
128 Name, for referenced objects including blocks, xrefs, and images

Thank you Imad,

I've been using Autocad for Architecture and building engineering exams for 5 years now, and I finally decided i need to solve some old doubts.

I often happen to "selcts similiar" elements and send them all to back, which is really useful. The fact is that sometimes after trimming, extending and "filletting" lines, the original order of overlapping lines is altered. I was wondering if there's a way to lock the underlying lines and elements, which I use as guidelines for my drawings.

As you can see I am using use the elements on the Violet layer as a guideline grid of lines which I need to stick to their place and not to be affected by any command. I'm drawing the section lines on a yellow layer over the guidelines of the grid.

I found a solution just by locking the layer, which I really rarely happen to do.

That's right... locking the layer is the right action.
