.sat file error reading

Goodmoring,

I am trying to import in Autocad 2016 a .sat file that has a v23 version; I know that Autocad reads at least v7; can you suggest me some ways to convert this file in the correct version? thanks a lot

I tried opening this file in several different applications but it failed in all of them. What is the source of the file?

I have created the file with Abaqus CAE, then I have exported the model in a .sat file. I can export in different format: .igs, .stp, .vda.

I need to modified the model in a particular way that results impossibile in Abaqus, for this reason i need to export the model and open it with Autocad.

I can try to attach all the different extensions.

I finally found a conversion program that allowed me to get it into Inventor and then to a dwg format.

Thank you a lot for the support. Now i can per the file in Autocad but the model is made up of triangles and it is quite impossibile to work on it, can you suggest me a way to transform all the features in surfaces? Thanks

Try exploding the object and then run convtosurface. I think that might work for you.

Thanks, the triangles now are surfaces but I have still one problem: I would like to work with a unique surface, how can I merge the singles parts into one bigger surface? Thanks

Hi @Anonymous,

I am sorry for the delay.

I have been working on the converted file and I have not found a nice way to clean up the triangulated surfaces. They are likely the result of the conversion process.

I started to emulate some of the parts by drawing them directly in AutoCAD and they look and behave much nicer. Here is a screen shot of surfaces on the left created in AutoCAD compared to the converted ones on the right.

I suspect that it will likely be faster to recreate this in AutoCAD or maybe better even to do this in Inventor or Fusion 360.

The problem is that on the MAC version of Autocad is impossible to import a STEP file; I have used Autocad on Windows and i have finally reached my goal! thank you so much again!
