Model space fast and paper space is slow

Good morning

My drawing commands are quick in modelspace. The Commands im using are zoom scroll in and out and editing of text.

The same commands are slow in paperspace.

Hello and welcome to Autodesk Forums,

Well this might happen, depending on complexity of Your Layout. Different things like multiple viewports, complex clipping shapes , different shade plots used in viewports. When i was working with complex drawings i used to "Disable" the viewports to increase performance (By changing the "On" property to "No" at the properties window).

Another thing that might influence overall Layout performance is setting for "Layout Regen options", perhaps You might take a look if by any chance You have the option "Cache model tab and all layouts" checked. You can experiment with that.

If that doesn't work, perhaps You can try to share a sample .dwg so we can try to reproduce Your problem and look for solution.

Hello,

I'm glad that It helped.

The "Layout Regen Option" checkboxes are available in Options (OP Command ), at System tab. This setting is actually responsible for faster switching between different Layouts and/or Model space, but I also thought it could be useful if You have some reasonable amount of data within Your drawing.

Well I tried both these suggestions and many others but still no improvement. It doesn't matter whether the drawing is large or small. The moment you go into paperspace the whole thing just bogs down and becomes almost impossible to work with.

This has been an ongoing issue with no solution seemingly in sight. I am disappointed with the performance all round. Been having these problems ever since release 2015. Why since 2015?

I have been trying many varied solutions from the forum for the past 6 months or more. I am not the only operator in the office facing these problems seems to be a global issue.

Does anyone have a solution that will work?

I have attached my drawing and x-ref.

The visualstyles is set to "3d Hidden Visual Style" on each vport in your layout. But the 3d Hidden Visual Style setting has been modified. Your drawing will be fine when you reset the setting of "3d Hidden Visual Style" to default.

Below is copied from HELP

1. Click View tab => Visual Styles panel => Visual Styles Manager.  
2. Right-click a predefined visual style and click Reset to Default.
(Predefined visual styles display a drawing icon at bottom right in the sample image.)

Thanks for the advice, also put visual back to wireframe. and only set the
print to legacy hidden seems to work as I have since discovered. All good
now here. 🙂

I also have the same problem where model space is running fine but paperspace is slow when panning and zooming. I have a new PC that should be more than adequate to run the software graphically. I am also running the LT version of AutoCAD so the 3d fixes would not apply to me. I am wondering if it has to do with an old template file I have been using with items in old drawings that are not updated. Something else I should point out is that in order to keep my files small I also purge everything on a drawing once I have completed it.

I'm having the same issue as you. I'm using AutoCAD LT 2020 with a new machine and my model is running very slow in paper space, especially when switching btwn sheets. I have not found the solution yet.

Did you read the first response which is marked as the solution?

If that doesn't solve your problem, you might try starting a new thread so that you can mark the solution when you get one.

LT2020 requires the 2020.1.3 update to be installed too. Do it now.

I have a similar problem. Everytime I open a C3D file, it opens in 3D Hidden visual style. I can't find how to configure it in order to open a file in 2D Wireframe by default.

I tried what you (BeKirra) suggested, by choosing 2D Wireframe, it seems that the file still opens in 3D Hidden.

Would you know how to solve this problem?

@HQGL01 You either are not saving your file after making the change to 2D Wireframe, or you have startup (or add-on) that is presetting 3DHidden with every file that you open if you are indeed saving your changes.

Find out which one it is, ask your colleagues or your IT for help digging that deep.

Thanks for your answer. I obvsiously tried saving my file after changing the setting in the visual styles window. I tried to find an IT capable of answering me regarding the installation settings, unfortunately, nobody here seems to know what I'm talking about and they claim that there is no different way among users to install C3D. Will try and speak with other departments regarding my issue to which I seem to be the only one to experience.

If that is the case, and you find others in your organization have no such issues like you, then your IT will need to test either giving you a new log-in or wiping your PC and mirroring a setup from another user that has no similar issues.

This is obliviously a reoccurring issue over the years. I've had it for a few years now, but just ignored it, and just dealt with it. Now, it seemingly has got worse with any AutoCAD 2022 product. That being paperSpace viewports being sluggish when touching them, pan, stretch, etc. all are set to wireframe for best performance.

I had Printer Support Paths set to a Network location that is a little slow connecting. When I set these to a local Path the problem went away. Doesn't help with Group Standards at all. But now I just sync all the support files from server to local and Path to the Local storage. seems to work better.

Somehow PaperSpace is constantly reading you Page Setup when refreshing.

Go to Page Setup Manager on the Layout Tab. Uncheck "Display Plot Styles". This stops AutoCad from checking the .ctb /.stb files for settings when viewing PS. I did this to keep my network Pathed support files location.

Had a similar problem in paper space, even when checking the right option in the Layout Regen Option still was very slow. I turned off the REGENAUTO variable and it just did it for me.
