I'm not sure if there is anything to solve, the radius dimension has it's position at the center of an arc or circle, so it's part of the drawing influencing the extents.

Where do you need "extents" for plotting? I stopped using "plot - extents" when "Layouts" where introduced (and working).

That center mark is a defining point for the dimension. It is not unique to radial dimensions, either. Plotting extents is the issue.

Patient to doctor: It hurts my shoulder when I do this.

Doctor to patient: Don't do that!

I like using extents as well. You can use the Jogged radius dimension to get around that issue.

I agree. There are times when Extents can be appropriate. 🙂

Hi,

>> But how exactly you center your plot with layout?

My layouts have defined sizes like A3, A1, A0, ... and my border has exactly that size, printing without borders defined for that page size.

And even if you use the checkbox for "Center the plot" does depend on the driver if that is really the center (or not in many cases 😉 ).

>> It only gives offset option

Offset option is a value you can set based on printable area or based on paper border (to be defined in _OPTIONS ==> tab "Plot and Publish" ==> "...offset relativ to ..."

And as additional info: stay a short time with the cursor above your hatched page-extents icon, then you get the printable area too 😉

Hi,

>> If I do layout then you get this part of the boarder in my pdf

That's not how I'm working 😉 Either I need the outer border, then I have to finetune the settings to fit to the printer or I don't need the border, then I don't draw it 😉

Back to the original question: if "Extents" does not work AND if you have a border you just need for centering you can use "Window" too 😉

10 point score for @Alfred.NESWADBA...

Using for long time and never paused over the page hatch swatch to see printable area. I always drilled down into the printer properties and paper size settings (how dumb was that).

Thanks for that little tip!

This post has sparked me to investigate more as I have not ran into the issue in my recollection.

I have always taught my classes to use Plot->Extents due to the various printers available to the classroom, campus PC labs, and theirs at home/work. The extents option rightly ignores any margin settings for paper sizes in the printer drivers and configs. However the problem of a center grip for the radius dimension reveals this LONG DISCUSSED topic of extents recognizing that dimension grip (but never the grip for the geometry). And interestingly the grip is housed on the Defpoints layer which is non-plot by default.

The Jogged Radius Dim was a good alternative but a less familiar process for many, and doesn't exist at all for the relatively new Dynamic Dimensioning process (sunshine on your dim icon anyone).

The Layout option of "What To Plot" in the Plot dialog is great when I teach select students about setting up plotter configurations but those are only the more advanced bunch as 2 semesters of ACAD (basic through 3D everything) affords little time for customization, then it's on to Inventor and Revit.

The dimension defpoints also impact the Zoom->Extents so this really isn't a surprise to me but again I have rarely needed dim elements in Paper Space with this point affecting area outside of my paper size. Turning off centermarks in the style or for that individual dimension, in properties, has no effect as we already know.

Thus I am inclined to fold my hand for Plot->Extents in favor of @Alfred.NESWADBA and @john.vellek with the Layout option.

When you draw a full rectangle at paper size for your layout and place it on the Defpoints (non-plot) layer, the Layout option will place the lower left corner at the printer margin corner. You can the look at your printable area as was suggested and divide the difference by two to enter that negative value into the offset boxes.

A quick example is attached.

Thanks for this revived discussion!

Then problem would be solved.

I turned off center tic marks in the dimension style and that fixed it. (then turn on after printing though)
