Please please please have this feature for the next AutoCAD version!

Thanks and have a great day!

Elly

Layer State Locked in a Viewport

Hello,

I am an interior designer and I have been encouraging everyone at the office to use layer state for construction plan, RCP, and finishes plan.

Most of the time, we work with x-ref'ed architectural background, which we update every now and then. And when they are updated, some new layers appear, especially as the drawings get more and more detailed.

So with the new x-ref, layer state update is sometimes inevitable, but then we would need to go into every single viewport and override the layer setting with the new layer state. This process has been taking a lot of work for us with bigger drawings.

So my question is this: is there any way we can lock a viewport's layer setting so that it gets automatically updated to the latest layer state? To me, it makes sense that AutoCAD has some function that enables this.

FYI, my office uses 2016 and 2017 LT.

Thank you!

Hi @Anonymous,

I see that you are visiting as a new member. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

My understanding of this feature is that it writes the current layer(s) settings to a file. To apply it to a drawing, you execute the command and it reads through the list and replicates the settings. There is not anything very automatic or dynamic about it.

It is a good suggestion however. Thank you for your suggestion how we can improve the product.

You are also welcome to contact the product team directly through the Product Feedback page. The links below go into more detail about the best ways to make suggestions.

Another great option is to participate in the AutoCAD Customer Council. This is an opportunity for our customers to partner with the AutoCAD development team to improve future releases of AutoCAD by giving continuous feedback on ideas, designs, and early builds.

Sounds like a LISP or a Script (LT) would do the trick.

Perhaps ask in the appropriate forum for further clarification?

???

Don't forget the VPLAYER command that will allow you to freeze a particular layer in ALL viewports at one shot.
