topic Dimension Scale Factor in AutoCAD Forum

I made a drawing and would like to blow up a certain part of it for a better view. I found that you can apply a scale factor if you copy and paste, however when I go to place it or type in an insertion point, it will just paste at original scale at 0,0.

I then thought that if I were to just draw it at twice the size, I could just scale down the dimension. I'm not able to get that to work either.

Is there a way to get either of these options to work or even a better way to go about doing this?

Thank you!

MUCH BETTER WAY!!!

I'll assume you are working in 2D...

Open a new drawing with the basic acad.dwt template.

Draw a 2" diameter circle at 6", 4.5" (middle of the Limits for this template).

You will have a model space and 2 layout tabs.

On each layout tab you will have a single viewport that peeks through to Model Space.

On Layout1 the 2" circle will be visible in the viewport.

Select the edge of the viewport and observe the viewport scale in the bottom right of your screen (should be 1:1).

Press ESC to deselect the viewport.

Place a quick dimension on the circle and you will see that it measures correctly.

Next...

Go to Layout 2 (same visibility as on Layout1) and select the edge of the viewport.

Set the viewport scale to 2:1 at the bottom right of your screen.

Press ESC to deselect the viewport.

Place a quick dimension on the circle in the scaled viewport.

Same size right!

You have just created a scaled view of your Model Space object.

You can create multiple viewports on layouts so that some viewports will be scaled greater for better detail of the same object or portion of the object. When in a Paper Space layout tab you will notice an additional ribbon named "Layout". The viewport creation tools are on that ribbon.

Viewports (views) may also be used in Model Space but it's a very dated method.

I hope this makes sense and you find a way to accomplish your goal.

Cheers,

Blaine

I was trying to get it in the same window for when I print. We have a title block set up already with a scaling option. But this will work.

Thank you!

1. copy-paste the certain part.

2. select the certain part and use "scale" command.
follow the instructions.

3. set the dimension scale-factor to 0.5 by typing "DIMLFAC"
follow the instructions.

4. Dimension the certain part.

OR

4.2 Copy the part "and your existing dimensions" and scale them.
4.3 make one dimension in scale-factor to 0.5
4.4 Match the properties of the dimension with scalefactor 0.5 to the normal scaled dimensions, by using "MATCH PROPHERTIES"

WOLA!

@Anonymouswrote:
