It's not something old vs new. It's just a different column setting. 5 grips are still the default. Mtexts with columns allowed behave apparently differently for some reason.

MText Differences

I have been using AutoCAD since the late 90's and have created various standards and text that just comes through the years with me.

My question is the evolution of MText. My MText over the years always had 4 grips around it if I wanted to massage the height or width of the body of text (5 if I was using a "middle" orientation). Seems as though the MText has evolved over the years and I am wondering if there is a way to convert my "old" MText into the new grip version?

My specific issue is that my old MText if orientated to "Middle Centre" has the central grip, but then I can grab any of the 4-corner grips and stretch out the text box - but that moves the location of the text.

The new MText if orientated the same way only has 3 grips. The Centre, Bottom and Right. If I grab the bottom or right grip, they adjust the text box but the central grip remains static! Which would be awesome.

I know how to make brand new MText, but my issue is that over the past 4 decades I have a lot of copy/paste notes that I would simply like to convert to this new grip style.

Any thoughts?

And I have tried exploding my original text, then using the Convert to MText function, but I lose my fonts (which isn't horrible as I can just create a new TextStyle) but it just puts it back to the 5-grip style and not the new, 3-grip version.

Help!

Does it work to, for example, select the Mtext and in the Properties palette change its justification to Top Center and then back to Middle Center? For me [Acad2020 here], that doesn't change its position, but the insertion point grip moves up and then back down. And it works on multiple Mtexts at once. It has the same effect if I use Bottom Center as the intermediary justification instead.

But I'm starting with already-3-grip Mtext. If that doesn't work on your old 5-grip Mtext, can you post a small drawing containing a few such objects, to experiment with?

Sorry Kent, I tried your solution and it still keeps the 5-grips. Have a look at the CAD file here, I have an example of my old text, and the new MText of the style I want.

Let me know what you think.
