If you're just looking for a hand-lettered-look font, and don't need it to actually look just like ARCHSTYL, I would suggest you use STYLUS, which comes with AutoCAD [no issues with sending drawings to other people who don't have your font], and in addition, is much better looking. I don't mind the general concept of emulating hand lettering, as "dishonest" as it is when you think about it, but at least it should be emulating good hand lettering, which ARCHSTYL [assuming it's the same one I've seen around a lot] definitely does not -- it's got some really ugly characters, in my opinion.

HOWEVER, be aware that when you use a .TTF font instead of a .SHX font, you give up some capability. Using lineweights based on colors in plotting, you can, for instance, have different parts of the same Mtext object at all sorts of different degrees of boldness, whereas you may not have any bold-face option with a .TTF font, or if you do, not likely more than two choices [regular & bold]. And in some cases at smaller sizes, even bold will look too light, because of the way a .TTF character is an "area" rather than made up of "linework," and therefore is unaffected by plotting options.

Is there a way to convert an shx file to ttf? In particular, I'm looking to convert archstyl.shx. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've attached the font.

I'm sure the conversion has already been done. Search for an equivalent. Plenty of them out there.

Hi @Anonymous,

There are no converters from SHX to TTF of which I am aware. The SHX definition does not contain enough detail to create a TTF.

There are numerous TTF fonts that emulate architectural printing but I am not sure that you will find one that matches the archstyl exactly. If you are trying to match one font across many applications then choose one TTF that looks the best and use it an all applications.

I did a quick Search and this site was on top of the list and contains some free and also some inexpensive architectural fonts.
