Drawing a line from a point in other line

I have a line and want to draw another, perpendicular to it but starting at a specific distance from the start of the first. I have the distance, but not the coordinates, so the only way I know to do this is drawing a second line duplicating the first, making it the distance I want to start the official line, say, 2cm, and then starting it. How can I do this without having to draw a duplicate first?

i suggest to use From osnap mode that will serve your need.

FROM is cool for x AND y offset by UCS and can't bear in mind the Line-Angle.

Otrack<relativ> is perfect, But if you use the OTrack usually with absolute angles, change these Options annoy.

The third Way is ( to permanently) set the objectsnap EXTENSION, extremely helpful.

You can use FromEnd.lsp with its (fe) function, available >here< or >>here<<, for the start point along the Arc [or anything else with linearity], and to draw perpendicularly from there as in the original question here, the (pf) function [= perpendicular from], available >>>here<<<.
