All,

FWIW, @Ranjit_Singh posted code that will correct this issue! Works like a charm!

So, until we can determine why it's happening in the first place, this will help a lot.

That would change the viewport standard scale as well. The viewports standard scale and annotative scale don't have to be the same.

OK, I'm having trouble explaining exactly what I'm looking for so I will try to be more specific. Here is what I would like you to do: Open a drawing. Go to a layout. Make sure you are in paperspace. Make sure nothing is selected. Look at the properties panel, under "Misc">Annotation scale. What does it show for your annotation scale. For me, in most cases, it shows either 1:1 or 1'-0"=1'0". But, I have seen instances where this has shown a different scale (1/8"-1'-0"). Let me reiterate, I am on a layout in paperspace with nothing selected. Why do I sometimes see a different scale. Now, here is what I want to know. Can you change that "paperspace" scale or not? On my properties panel I can't activate the scale to change it. Before you post please try to change this scale for yourself and let me know if you have any success. If you really feel that you need to know why I want to know this I can post this also, but I don't think that it's necessary.

You can't change that annotative scale. You can rename it using the scalelistedit command but you can change the units from 1 paper inch is 1 drawing foot

I have attached a drawing with two layouts. Layout 1 (in paperspace, nothing selected) shows an annotative scale of 1/8"=1'-0". As you can see my annotative block inserts at that scale which is wrong. Yes I know I can change the scale of the inserted block. Layout 2 (in paperspace, nothing selected) shows an annotative scale of 1'-0"=1'-0". As you can see my annotative block inserts at that scale which is correct.

So here's the deal. This is not so much a problem as it is a curiosity. I would like to know 1: why each layout is at a different scale, 2: is it possible to make them both 1'-0"=1'-0".

I know you guys are looking for a challenge so here it is. Don't lose sleep over it. But I'd love to know. Guess I have a bit of OCD.

there could be a number of possibilities.

1. which version of AutoCAD?

2. customized workspaces?

3. custom CUI?

4 Custom templates?

5. Open New drawing - is it a default or a company template file?

I opened 2 new drawings and got the same result in both 1'-0"=1'-0"

if i open an existing drawing with predefined settings then I will expect different results.

if I delete the layout tabs and check the new Layout tab created by AutoCAD I get the same result.

There is nothing unusual in the DWG file you posted other than an out-of-scale tag in LAYOUT 1 that I can replace easily with the same identical tag in LAYOUT 2 (and it's not oversized).

So is that all it was? you did not even try to insert a new copy of the block, or just copy/paste it from the other layout? You probably need to have these two icons on (they turn blue) in all layouts and modelspace as well.

I opened your drawing and on layout 1 the Layout Annotation Scale is 1/8"=1'-0" (open properties with nothing selected and no viewports active), which is supposed to be impossible. I had the same thing happen last year to one of my drawings, and it was at 1/8"=1'-0" also. No idea how it gets there or how to correct other than redo the layout.

Autodesk should examine your drawing and tell us how to correct it. I know of others that have run into this problem as well so it does happen every so often.

Obviously this is a corrupt layout and you could move the contents to a new layout and move on but how you got to this state is a big question.

I don't know that I will ever get an answer but I will dig into the subject a bit. If I can determine how one could change this property I will report back.

Hi @miket1210

This file has three layouts and two are set 1' = 1' but the third one has a scale of 1/8"=1'-0"

I went through the -dwgunits routine but couldn't get the scale correct.

So, I unlocked the viewport on the layout. I then set the scale of the viewport at 1:1

Next I used CANNOSCALE and set the value to 1:1

<STRIKE>Aha! It worked.</STRIKE> Can you try this too and let me know if you have any success? I have been playing with this off and on for a week and hope this fix does the trick for you.

[Edit] - I am wrong, still didnt work....still looking.

Hi, miket1210,

I feel your pain! I spent about an hour going over this issue with John Beltran of Autodesk at AU last year. It definitely seemed to be a bug and was related to the scale list somehow. I forget the specifics

One workaround I found was that the PS anno scale can be "reset" by creating a new layout, assigning the same page setup as used on the "bad" layout, and copy/pasting all the content from the bad onto the new.

The only issue this doesn't address is that the default paperspace anno scale in some drawings is 1:1 and others is 1'-0"=1'-0". So, while the workaround takes care of the odd-ball anno scales (like 1/4"=1'-0"), it still doesn't explain why there are two different scales, how to get them back to 1:1 (for consistency), and doesn't resolve the issue of copy/pasting annotative objects between drawings.

Hope that helps somewhat.
