I think there's three of four threads scattered around looking for the AutoCAD IDEAS page. I'll bet there would be sufficient support for it if all the threads were combined.

So this has been a request ever since IDEAS forums popped up: I suspect it does not exist because of at least two reasons:

- Most requests for new features are just about being unaware of existing options, or the fear of customizations. Just look around the Ideas forums that exist toay to see AutoAD-only users sneaking in ideas that already have solutions, workflows and customizations.

- Autodesk relies on AUGI.COM to be the new features-list provider since that organization requires a) membership (free for all but shows commitment to the topic) and b) requires up-voting by those members on a regular basis throughout the year (yes, you have to convince others your need for a feature is worthy).

I'll buy the first 10-users in this topic a beer at AU Las Vegas if an IDEAS forum dedicated to plain-jane Generic AutoCAD is ever created around here.

I've been a member of AUGI for nearly 30 years. Convincing a 2D minset that improved 3D features is a good idea has proven impossible. The AUGI group is exactly why we ended up divorcing drawings from models and creating 2D facsimiles of 3D models instead of using the actual models in drawings. The group has a preconceived mindset based in the 2D world and breaking passed that has been unproductive last 2 decades. It was the AUGI group that forced the SOLPROF crap back into R14 after its removal in R13 and they continue to ignore better methods in favor of 2D cartoons which has led to the MUCH less than useful VIEWBASE lunacy. It was AUGI who promoted the annotative concept that turned simple annotation into a complex time sucking PITA, when it would have been much simpler, and much more productive to simply fix DIMASSOC=2 for paperspace annotation (which is still broken by the way).

It is sad, and less than productive for Autodesk to depend on a myopic and closed minded third party minority of users to drive its own innovations.

But you're probably right, wresting that control away from AUGI will probably never happen, and we'll continue to get short-sighted, ham-handed, time-wasting 2D workarounds to creating drawings from 3D models.

This is sad. I tried to look at the AUGI wish list but could not figure it out. Rank give one item only. Search searches the whole site, so it is VERY difficult to see what ideas are there. I have not used it, but the rank/vote system looks to be very cumbersome. AUGI has wish lists for verticals that Autodesk has Idea Stations for. Not consistent, but who would expecting that.

They have TOO MUCH power and pull, and are dominated by drafters with a 2D mindset leading to slow, cumbersome, and wrong-headed "features" like FLATSHOT, VIEWBASE and the whole (and wholly wrong) annotation lunacy. Such short-sighted directions have hobbled the application for years.

Log in first (basic membership is free), then tap "make a wish" to post your idea. Read the part about "how it works", tap RANK or VOTE to see what's been posted and voted on.

AUGI has always run the wishlist much like your reality TV talent shows are done today: ens users vote up what they wish to see in future versions. So it's up to the wish creator to 'sell it' to the masses.

A less involved method where good ideas can also get lost at are the Ideas Stations in these forums: so they both are terrible for the casual throw-an-idea-out-there user.

At least an Ideas page wouldn't be controlled by an outside organization that will only show you what it wants you to see. AUGI is interested in AUGI and little more.

Any reaction to the this from the development team?

I do post through the feedback link that you mentioned. I have heard from Autodesk support and seen comments on the web, from both users and Autodesk employees that this feed back gets read and is considered. On a good day I believe this. On a bad day I wonder if this is really just a black hole.

Since I have never heard back on a feedback posting, I can assume that that my feedback was clear enough that no additional information was needed or that the message never went through. An automated acknowledgement would be nice; this lack of acknowledgement is surprising.
