Layer Manager- Default Search String

When you search in the layer manager, the default is set to |* (with | being the cursor position). This causes the default search to mean anything that starts with what I type (unless I manually type * first).

I find my self searching for the middle of strings way more than the beginning, but have to type the additional asterisk each time. Is there any way to change the default search string to

*|*

Sadly no: Would it help your workflow better if you got more into Layer Filters by chance? just a thought, just limit the list of layers etc. and help you find what you need quicker.
