topic EXPRESS TOOLS FROM command in AutoCAD Forum

We've just been introduced to the "From" command in the Express Tools menu in class. I have ACAD 2016 Student version at home for homework assignments. Anyway, the Express Tools menu pops up when I hold down shift and right-click the mouse, but when I select a command, e.g. "From" I get a message that the command is "unknown" Even OSNAP commands like "Tangent" won't work--though they do via other paths.

I've confirmed that Express Tools has been loaded, I've run reinstall and repair from the control panel. Nothing seems to work. I don't have tech support with the student version, so help from here is my only help.

Thanks

FROM is not a command: you cannot use it like that. You have to be in a command function like MOVE or COPY first, then it can be used. It's the same functionality as Object Snaps.

Ask your teacher about it all and how to use it: you don't need tech support from Autodesk.

Hi,

>> ...the "From" command in the Express Tools menu in class. <<

in addition to what mentioned above... "From" object snap has NO relation to Express Tools menu.

Regards,

You are correct and I checked with my instructor too. Autodesk is a bit more complicated than I'd hoped. But it's interesting and I hope to put it to work earning an income. However, I've got to get through this basic course, then move on to Architectural and Revit--don't forget BIM. They may be burying my computer with me before I finish it all, LOL.

Thanks for the help =0)
