TRIM COMMAND FOR A SECTION

Hello all,

I have an assembly from Inventor that I have exported to AutoCAD 2023 as a .dwg file. My goal is to calculate the section modulus of my assembly at a certain plane. I use the SECTION command to get the section view at the desired plane. I want to create a region for this section so I can run MASSPROP on the region. However, when I try to TRIM the resulting section, I am unable to. I get the error, "cannot TRIM this object."

I'm wondering if anyone knows why I am unable to trim, and if there is anything I can do to fix this. Thank you in advance.

I know tracing the section view is an option, but this is a complex section view and I have multiple files to do this on so that would be too time consuming.

Hello,

I found that I had to explode the objects to get them as individual lines, and now I am able to trim.

I appreciate your reply though.

If you've created a section plane object at the location on the exported Inventor model then simply create a 2D Section Block that you can use to determine the section modulus. Once the 2D Section Block has been created you can explode it and region the relative parts.
