I'm trying to model a fabric that moves as part of an assembly. The fabric also contains a bladder, which stiffens with compressed air, which I'd like to animate.

I thought of creating a matrix of very small spheres and cylinders, connected in 2d by ball joints - which may be the best way to do this. This approach would end of with 1,000's of parts, and would be time consuming putting all together - which brings me to my second idea - programmatically create an array/matrix of objects that are all connected.
