Ghost lines appear after selecting a shape to draw

Having trouble with ghost tracking lines after selection of shape. Can anyone tell us how to eliminate a series of lines which appear while moving the cursor across the page. When you zoom in or out they disappear, but it is impossible to use while drawing.

Your video card may be choking: if you have a modern version of AutoCAD try turning off LINEFADING and LINESMOOTHING variables.
If it still occurs or you have an older version of AutoCAD, turn off hardware acceleration. Then go find updated video card drivers and see if they offer any relief.
