@Anonymous

I could not agree more. Making copies of drawings and xrefs, and switching the xref paths to the copies so you can rip and tear (well, erase and detach), is indeed tedious.

Luckily though, its simple. The trick is to keep a copy of the copy, so when you erase the stuff that causes the problem, you can go back a step and see what was there. More good news I know - copy of the copy...

Pretty soon, your whole day is used up, you isolated the issue, and........its an autocad bug you can't do anything about.

Story of my life, and its not fun when there are 40 xrefs involved.

Understand that it absolutely could be hardware related. My laptop sometimes does not have the jerky cursor when a user of mine is getting it. But we don't have spare different vid cards laying around to beg our IT group to test out for us. In the end, we either isolate the problem(s) in the drawings and do something to fix, or we switch to bricscad for the drawing with bad behavior. I know @RobDraw has not embraced bricscad yet, but I encourage all cad operators to get a seat of it so they have plan B at least. You might still pay for acad, and should if you make dynamic blocks and deal with point clouds, but Bcad is a one time $800 purchase, compared to $1500 a year for acad. If you like bcad, drop acad for a year and you save a ton. I'm pushing forum etiquette by saying this, but if the adesk team cannot solve this cursor bug, I get some leeway.

Now for something really nerdy, my company chili contest entry theme was "Bricscad is the new Autocad" but in chili disguise. The joke is always that a team will just buy canned chili and enter it as their own. So I wrapped cans of the same chili with these labels you could see through a bit, to imply you won't know the difference. Its getting complicated, here is the pic of the cans:

I've just started AutoCAD 2018 version.

I have everything working fine EXCEPT for a jerky cursor.

It works smoothly until a command is started.

Then, it takes a full second before it moves and then it jerks, almost as if a snap was set.

I've check past postings and have adjusted as suggested, but, to no avail.

I'm ready to start over and follow any suggestions you all out there might have.

What do your OSNAP settings look like? If you turn off all Osnaps (F3) does the behavior change?

If you toggle Hardware Acceleration in GRAPHICSCONFIG does that improve the behavior?

I assume this is happening in all drawings.

I did as you suggested in the GRAPHICSCONFIG.

It still is jerky.

Not only does the cursor take a moment to move, it almost seems to anticipate and will highlight a line before the cursor gets there.

Hi @Anonymous,

Perhaps this behavior is related to command preview. Here is an article that shows how to toggle it on/off.

This also might be related to selection highlighting which can also be turned on or off as described in this article.

Neither helps.

The cursor seems to "stick", so, the cursor stops moving, while I keep moving the mouse.

Then, when the cursor gets "unstuck", it jumps past what I had been hoping to select.

This is really slowing my drafting down.

Have you tried changing 'SNAPMODE' to zero? Works every time for me...

hmm guys, wireframe and snapmode?

Thanks, but if you read my post I say the stickiness only happens when trying to select things.

Wireframe is the lightest weight mode, shall I switch to conceptual or realistic? @Slawomir_What was the thought there?

This is not some simple issue, and is not as bad on some machines as others telling you its some graphics system issue.

Like I say though, these are dell cad machines, not exotic builds.

@JamesMaedingI see your point.

What I want to say from my experience is: cursor is sometimes jerky when actual Visual Style is Wireframe. Switching to 2D Wireframe makes cursor works fine.

As you can see reading this whole topic jerky cursor can have many roots.

@Slawomir_

right, but after you clear out all the roots associated with properly behaving features, there still seems to be some lag going on when selecting things. I would guess this is some "point monitor" action happening where its always looking at what entities are under the cursor, even when all the things are turned off such as selection preview. Only the adesk coders and serious hacker/debuggers can watch what is going on to tell. I'm not one of those.

@Slawomir_wrote:

@JamesMaedingI see your point.

What I want to say from my experience is: cursor is sometimes jerky when actual Visual Style is Wireframe.
