topic error inserting layouts. operation terminated in AutoCAD Forum

Good Afternoon,

Background: I have 7 project .dwg files. Each with the same 440ish layers. Each with a large number of nested blocks. (15-17Mb file sizes)

Goal: Have 7 project .dwg files with 30-40 layers and minimal nested blocks to keep the file size down.

The reason the original files have so many layers is because they are exported from a fairly complex Revit file. The reason for the work is to conform the .dwg file closer to our companies standard layers and layouts.

A carefully went through the drawing and changed every line/text/block/etc to our standard working layers. I also went into each block (oh so many) and made the appropriate changes. I deleted a lot of the layers and purged the file of unused nested blocks. All is well.

Now I want to transfer my newly updated blocks to each of the other .dwg files. The best way I came up with on the forums was to have a "blank" .dwg with the newly updated blocks.

Copy the model space information over from 1 dwg file

copy the layouts from the dwg to the "Blank"

Now you should essentially have an exact duplicate of the dwg file, but with updated blocks.

The problem I am having is that when I go to use the Design Center or when I try and copy a layout over via "From Template" I get an error message. (error inserting layouts. operation terminated).

I tried this operation with another set of dwg files and it worked fine. So something in my project dwg's is causing the error. I was hoping someone had some insight into the issue. See attached .dwg files.

Thank you,

HI @Anonymous,

While I am looking at your attached file, I suggest that you run an Audit or Recover on the file. When I did so it found some errors which might be the root of the problem. My AutoCAD locked up doing this so I am going to start over but it might be good if we both try.

[Edit] I also found 97428 registered applications deleted. when I ran -PURGE>Regapps

Try working with my cleaned up version of your file (attached)- Look at the difference in file size!

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question.

I'll try the Audit now and see what I come up with. I'll repeat the purge command as well to both files.

Alright. That worked :D. What commands did you use on the file you gave back to me? Purge and Audit? (I now see that I forgot to purge that file originally)

Hi @Anonymous

Yes, Audit then Purge but also the command line -PURGE select Regapps and purge them all. You had over 97,000 regapps - the most I have ever seen in any drawing file!
