AutoCAD file size increases with each save

received 4 MB DWG 2D drawing file from architects and when i save its become 18 MB file

architects send me normal DWG file not zip file

why this happening? any solution? i did purge command, delete unwanted items, change font etc etc

but no benefit

what to do to solve this?

I attach a link that explains an add-on that you should download and install, once this is done open the DWG file and when you save it will not give you problems:

Can you attach the DWG file (or at least a stripped down version of it).

Otherwise we are just guessing.

I understand, in that case it does the following, it places Proxygraphics to 0, and it returns to work with the planes and save them,

That is why I said a "stripped down version" of it.

IOW - erase all of the entities, and save a copy.

If the bloat is being caused by non-graphical entities, it will still be evident.

Are you saving to a dwg-format lower than the one sent?
Post the 18MB file, let's all have a look for ourselves if you aren't able to decipher the problem further.

What format DWG is what I asked, sorry for any confusin: 2018, 2013, 2010, 2007, 2004, 2000, 14?
Can you post your 18MB file too?

There is no such thing as a 2017dwg format.

Older format create larger DWG files.

@corcorans In what format is the file being saved? Because if you have AutoCAD 2018 and you are saving in a previous version it is possible that this is problem,

ohh yes that was the problem

when i save on 2018 version its original file size not increase to 5 times

I see that you are visiting as a new member. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

I opened your file and ran AUDIT, PURGE, -PURGE>Regapps. Audit found two errors and -PURGE>Regapps found thousands of regapps.

When I save the file it dropped down to 4+MB.

I see that the proxy objects were created in Architectural Desktop 2007!

I opened my version of the file in AutoCAD 2018 and then performed an -exporttoautocad. Apparently there are newer objects (2018 versions) that cannot be saved down to plain AutoCAD objects.
