I have worked in a few different disciplines in my life.

I have found, generally, in all these disciplines it is good to have a different named layer

for each different object, and place each different object on that layer.

Obviously if there is a group of several objects exactly the same,

they all go on the same layer.

That way you can use all the nice layer tools, to layout your drawing

both in model space and paper space,

eg Layerstates, Layerfilters, layiso, copytolayer, laymcur, laycur etc.

It also enables you to make different goups of objects different colours,

different linetypes, different lineweights at the press of a button.

Hi @Anonymous,

Layer management is often times dictated by discipline and with whomever you might need to collaborate. Can you give me an idea on your discipline and how you work with consultants?

There are numerous standards available that you can use. Setting up standards in a template is a good way to begin. I am happy to help if you can give me a bit more detail.
