Hi All

For years I have been usign align command (it is not about 3dalign). Recently it started to change elevations of aligned object (using yes to apply scale). How to fix it and force align to not change elevations?

Thanks

Redefining the question: is there a way to scale 3d drawing in XY plane only? Without changing Z values?

Lets say 2 blocks have elevation 5 and distance between is 10. Scaling with factor 2 will change elev to 10 and distance to 20. I want to have elevation of 5 units after scaling

That sounds like you are using a Scale base point which is at Z=0. Use one with Z=5. You may be able to use a point on one of the Blocks. If not, use point coordinate filters -- when it asks for the base point, type .XY [with the period prefix] and pick a point at the XY position of the reference point, and it will say (need Z) , at which you type in the 5.

.... which means your description involving two Blocks at the same elevation was not representative....

And would these "elements" be of various types as well as at various elevations? Any 3D objects, even [for example] Lines with different Z coordinates at their ends? If so, how should they be scaled? Any elements drawn in different Coordinate Systems in planes not parallel to the current XY plane? Etc.

I imagine a solution will involve a stepping through a selection and scaling every element selected individually, around a location calculated using the XY of the designated base point and a Z coordinate somehow extracted from the element itself, by different means for different entity types.

I know this is an older request for ALING and I do not see any answers here.

ALIGN used to be used to ALING and SCALE your drawing at the same time.

My 2024 and 2025 does not allow that to happen any more.

This is my options for ALIGN: Type Align: Pick Point then Justification comes up L/C/M/.R <NO Change>

When I pick the first point it goes right into these other commands and can not get a second point option.

I know I can rotate, scale up etc but ALIGN used to do the job in one step.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Side note... used to always put a - before the command to get the old way of doing the command and many comments come up when someone puts a _ before the command saying that must be a typo.

Well, don't know when AUTOCAD made the change, but some commands will start with the - and some will start with the _ . Align must be _ . But Plot must have the - . If you use _plot it pops up the dialog box. -plot will be the old school way of typing. So when you see a - or _ both could be right depending on the command being used.

Thanks,

JRR!

I use AutoCAD 2024 and 2025 with no other programs.

Very Strange, but I must of hit something to cause the Align to ack like it did like Mr. Pendean said.

I should of waited another day before sending out but... did not.

I just re-checked my AutoCAD.... ( I had closed it for lunch and reopened it ). My Align works like it should now.

I did a search for my mysterious command replacement and am unable to find how that got in there.

Also yes Mr. Jessup, the . before the command works as well. Did not know that. Thanks.

Side note 2025 now has Bing Maps and Esri Maps for Set Locations.

Sorry for the mix-up.

Thanks, JRR.
