Besides what @john.vellek mentioned, perhaps you dragged them to a subfolder and just aren't seeing them. Try doing a search on the server. To prevent this when I'm doing a critical move, I use 3 operations, Copy then Paste, then Delete the originals. The server's OS doesn't send deleted files to the server's recycle bin with mapped network shares. Unless the server has specific software on the server to do this kind of backups, you're probably out of luck.

Afternoon All,

Right, in need of assistance please.

I was copying a folder full of sub assemblies / parts from my local machine to the server, which somehow got corrupted along the way. I have no idea how, but the destination folder & the source folder disappeared into the ether.

There was no option to restore previous version, no copy of the original folder or any files anywhere on my machine or the server. No search has come up with anything. I've tried recycle bin and old versions before you ask!

I tried a system restore in the hope that it would restore the files. This half worked:- the sub directories (model/conveyor, legs, feet etc) were all there, but the parts themselves were all gone - the only thing replacing them was "lockfile.lck".

There was considerable amount of work involved in modelling this, so any help is appreciated!

windows 8

not sure if you need more info - but please ask

Cheers

Adam

Hi Adam,

I see that you are visiting as a new member. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

This sounds like a terrible ordeal. Have you checked your Temp folder for any autosave files or BAK files? I am guessing that since you have done a Restore, that these are not present either.

Do you run regular backups of both your local and server stores? I am not sure why you are working local instead of on the server but that might be part of your network configuration/accessibility.

Without any backups I don't think there is a way to recover any of this data. Have you considered some online backup copies such as using A360?

I am guessing your post is more likely how to prevent and recover from such a failure than how to actually recover your data because it dosen't sound like you have any backup copies.

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question.
