Hi, Everybody.

I have a problem with Autocad object snap tracking. it's like this- while object snap tracking, whenever I type in a distance to locate a point, the track line disappears, I'll have to move my mouse pointer or crosshair to get it back.

Is there a solution to this problem?

can you provide a screen shot of your issue?

is your cursor size set to 100%, if so it may be masking out the tracking line in ortho

Hi,

Object snap tracking works in conjunction with object snaps.so when you type a distance you will loose tracking option.if you give us more details we will provide you proper answer. also you can read more HERE.

Hi there,

Did you turn off F12 (Dynamic input function)? If it turned off, just hit F12 again to active it and try the tracking again. I had the same situation and found this thing help me. Hope it help you too.

L.T

Thanks, everyone.

If I were to explain it _the object snap tracking feature where we track an activated Object snap or a temporary point to locate a specific point in tandem with the polar angle setting or even the Ortho function is how I find it useful but when I have the Dynamic Input turned on while trying to do the same thing, Autocad always accepts every key press as either a length or an angle value. It helped track ( and track alone) an activated Object snap it didn't let me specify a distance value and locate a new point by typing in the required distance.

As I had Line command activated and after picking the start point, trying to locate the endpoint from an activated Object snap at a required distance- Upon typing in the distance, Autocad assumed I was entering the length of the Line and hence after specifying the distance and hitting Enter key it gave me a Line of length equalling the typed reference Length.

I think I've said it all, every step that I took. One of my friends also complained of the same thing.

I guess, maybe that is how Dynamic Input works or that is one drawback. Any help is appreciated.

Thank You all.

I know this behaviour too since 2015.

And I see it as a bug.

BUT it happened to me that I choosed to use ribbon instead of toolbars, the bug disappeared. Is that your case ?

Back to a "classical" working space the osnap tends to disappears as I type a distance.

(I move the mouse a little as a very simple but annoying workaround)

It is a little bit like when you try to glue a direction pleased to the osnap and want to specify the distance with a laptop with no numeric keyboard.

The fact that you press SHIFT makes the current snap you were counting on disapear.

You are not alone. If I understood well your issue.

Docking your command-line will fix the issue.

This is the answer. I don't understand how or why a cosmetic option like docking or undocking the command line should affect the function of command input. Horrid. I feel like I have to revert every new feature Autodesk puts into Autocad because they always impede production.

This has been driving me insane lately. How many things I’ve run on our CNC that were out of square JUST A HAIR because of this; you go to stretch and it either snatches your geometry off on some crazy distance/angle nowhere near where you wanted it, or just enough that you can’t even tell it’s out of skew due to the smoothing of geometry. Many times can’t even tell until I import into alphcam, then have to go back to double check and fix everything. Even resort to a million construction lines everywhere like I’m going back to realer 10, WTF!?

Autodesk should do better, specially at how much the subscription cost.
