Welcome to the Autodesk / AutoCAD Forums !

1) Please remind that ACAD 2010 was available during Spring 2009 !

2) So the code has been MAINLY written in 2008 !

3) Maybe you can try to run with Graphic Hardware Acceleration OFF !?

Graphics problem in ACAD2010

We have been using AutoCAD 2010 and it has worked great since it first came out. Here's the problem, because it's 2010 and our subscription has expired, there is no support or updates in regards to newer graphics cards. There has to be a way to make a Radeon R7 370 ( which is now in every computer in the office) work with that card. If we try to update the graphics driver, ACAD will not work and we get the ol' "Fatal Error: Unhandled Access Violation Writing..".blah...blah...blah. It seems incredibly crappy to spend another $5000 on AutoCAD just so we can actually update the graphics driver on every computer. I can see how this is the way Autodesk forces people to continually pay for upgrades so they make money, but it also seems like they are purposefully driving us away to a different CAD program. Any knowledge about how to fix the graphics problem would be greatly appreciated. And if there's just "better pay for an upgrade, cheapo" chatter, I'll just throw peanuts in your face and call you a bad monkey.....

Hi @vandacabinet,

I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

What OS are you running your AutoCAD 2010 on? If you have just upgraded graphics cards, do they have appropriate drivers for the operating system you are using?

While I wait for your response, I too suggest that you disable the Hardware Acceleration when running AutoCAD. You can do this when starting AutoCAD by using the No Hardware switch. Please let me know if this gets your AutoCAD up and running.

Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question.

The computer I am running ACAD2010 on runs Windows 7, because it's the easiest to network with the CNC machines running Win98, WinXP, and yes, Windows NT is actually still working on the panel saw... the other computers run Win10. I've turned off the auto updates because of this problem. Only happens when the graphics driver is updated. then I have to rollback the drivers. I'll try your idea and see if it works out ok. I thought I tried it before but the Enable Hardware Acceleration check box always gets re-checked when I restart ACAD. Thanks for replying so quickly.

Dave Erickson

Thanks Dave for the quick reply. Please let me know if the No Hardware switch takes care of the problem for you.

Another option might be to leave an older graphics card in the computer just for this process. Depending on the card, you might be able to use only the older card for AutoCAD and let all your other applications run with the newer one.

So far, the "/nohardware" switch seems to be working. There is no longer an "Enable Hardware Acceleration" box. Fingers crossed
