Linear Dimension Values Slightly Wrong

Hi,

I am new to AutoCAD and just tried to draw an equilateral triangle, as shown in picture. It was drawn with one line command, so all three lines were really from head to toe connected. The three sides should mathematically equally long, in this case 100. However, the third side is shown to have a length of 99.92.

Can someone maybe give me a hint to fix this problem?

I too drew a triangle with legs at 100 units. Mine measures correctly. Insert my file on top of yours and lets see where the difference exists.

Thanks a lot! I am sorry that I might not quite understand what you mean by inserting your file on top of mine? I opened your file, it is totally right, however, I still cannot really find out what is wrong with my drawing here. I will upload my file and the step-by-step drawing here, maybe you can have a more detailed look on it?

I apologize if I am getting ahead of you. I looked at your file and did a LIST on the left hand leg of your triangle. I see that it shows up at 60 degrees until I type UNITS and increase the precision. Then it shows that it is not quite 60.

I suggest that you increase the unit precision and perhaps also explore the use of POLAR which will let you automatically place lines at designated angles.

Polar mode can be toggled using the F11 key- read more about it in Help which can be turned on by using F1

Glad you found your solution!

Just wanted to point out the Polar Tracking is evident on your jpg upload. The upper image shows the horizontal green dashed extension which indicates your Polar Tracking is set at the default of 90 degree increment. Your first 60 degree line simply shows the dynamic display polar angle at 60 degrees, which is only due to the precision of your angle units and your mouse being located close. If the Polar Tracking is set for 30 degree increments you will see the green dashed projection lines at every 30 degrees.

You should right-click the Polar Tracking icon for settings or go into the Drafting Settings dialog box and explore the Polar Tracking increments as @john.vellek suggested.

Wanted to make sure you got that because it's an essential for my students.
