Hello,

I'm using Autocad 2015 and when i try to make a live section with more than one solid, sometimes a bit complex, like for example one solid representing existing ground , another solid representing a concrete structure, sometimes it won't cut at all the solids, other times, cut some solids and the other no and other times it works fine.

It's like an intermitent flaw/bug. Sometimes if i restart the computer, it works, other times, even with the restart it won't work, i can't figure it out.

I work with a Z640 workstation with an Xeon processor, 16Gb ram and a Quadro K2220, so i don't think it could be a hardware problem.

Thanks for all your help.

Nuno

Is it possible to attach a sample file with a Live section that displays this issue? I would like to try it in a couple different versions to see if the behavior is different. Also, Does it behave differently if you toggle any of the graphicsconfig options?

Hi @novais,

Thanks for the file. As I mentioned, I don't have AutoCAD 2015 any more but I tested in 2016, 2017, and 2018. In all three versions your file did tax the hardware quite a bit.

2016 - performed fine and couldn't get it to fail.

2017 - saw the behavior you are describing

2018 - ran AUDIT and discovered 12 errors. After it repaired them I was able to see the live sectioning fine.

Both 2016 and 2017 did not find any errors with Audit. 2018 does a more rigorous check but unfortunately doesn't let me export down.

When I tried to exporttoautocad from 2017 it crashes my program. My gut tells me this has something to do with the proxy objects. Did this file begin in Civil 3D? It might be worth exporting from there to see if it can clean up the errors.

Thanks for your quick answer.

I've started this drawing as i start all the drawings that i don't use Civil 3D, by starting my 'autocad civil 3d 2015 as autocad 2015' icon.

And with a acad.dwt.

So, with what's happening to me and your results, i'm completely confused, because sometimes my drawing works well and other times no, and even if i restart my workstation doesn't resolve the issue, it's really a intermittent flaw...

And it's not only this but many others, and also a bit complex too...

Since there are Civil 3D objects in the file, I suggest trying an -exporttoautocad from AutoCAD Civil 3D to see if that corrects the behavior.

Hi John,

I've exported the drawing to autocad 2015 and still the same, it's like the drawing having it's own will. Sometimes it shows all solids cutted, other times only somy of the solids cutted.

Also tried on a autocad 2016 map with the same results.

It's a bit frustrating this sort of things...

Nuno

Update,

After exporting to plain new autocad file, as i mencioned above, it still didn't worked. But then, i tried to audit the file (no errors found), and magically it worked fine, all the solids working well in the live section volume.

However, when exiting/saving the file and then re-open it remains with the bug not showing all the solids, i need to audit the drawing every time i open it to work well...

Nuno

I had the same issue - weird behavior when trying to section 3D solids.

An AUDIT in AutoCAD 2018 solved the problem. 2 Errors found and fixed. Sectioning then worked fine.

Thanks for the solution.

[AutoCAD 2022] Livesection stopped working, ie. not showing a section, after I added a jog to a cutting plane (fairly simple 3D solid, fig 22.46, Mastering AutoCAD 2018 / Nakamura) After searching high and low for a possible explanation (didn't find a lot of references to that particular command) I saw @john.vellek mention Audit in this chat, so I tried it and voila, "total errors found 0" but the section reappeared.

Disappointing that this bug still alive and kicking several releases later.
