Set your background mask in the MText editor, not in the MLeader Properties. Select the text, right-click, select Background Mask, and set the border offset factor to 1.05.

Yes, this feature should be a must as we pretty much every drawing have to manually set the back ground masking.

This is yet another manual process that auto desk has forgotten about 😠

I have seriously been so irritated with MLeaders and their huge background masks that I had always considered to be unshrinkable. There is always something to learn when it comes to AutoCAD. Your almost 6 year old post just made my day!

I had an similar issue today where in one annotation scale it looked fine, but in a detail it was left with a masking box that extended way down beyond the frame of the Mleader (looked comparable to the larger masks height). I tried to adjust the mask with no luck as above. My co-worker noticed the width of the box was 0.00. After adjusting this to fit the same amount of "word wrapping" it fixed my issue.

Very annoying that this cannot be set by default -- hopefully they fix this one day. I often have to overlay text over images and good masking functionality would really be helpful.

Unless you are stuck in an older version of LT... you can ask for guidance on how to customize AutoCAD to help create what you need all the time if creating a master Template file to pull customized (and custom named) "styles" is not working for you: which of these programming languages do you feel most comfortable using:

If none, start a new post in the LISP forum, be very detailed about your needs, share a sample DWG of your desired settings, and the good folks over there will help get you started.
