Hi All,

I created the attached block and I assure you I did not duplicate the first two attribute and now I can't seem to get rid of the dups.

If you just look at the block, they're not there.

If you insert the block and open the Enhanced Attribute Editor, they're not there.

BUT, open the block in the Block Editor, select one attribute, RMB and pick the "Attribute order..." menu item and WHA???? The first two attributes (ELEV and QTY) are there twice each??? Additionally, when I do a "dataextraction" to an XLS file, there are the two attributes labeled ELEV, ELEV(1), QTY and QTY(1).

I've actually recreated this block from scratch and I get the same results.

PLEASE, can anyone help me?? I have no idea what is going on here.

Hi,

I don't have an answer yet, but I see that there are more entities in the drawing than are selectable.

To check:

open your drawing

select all objects with window selection (don't use <CTRL><A> at this point)

delete the selected objects

now press <CTRL><A>

...and you can see in the property window, that there are 7 objects left in modelspace.

At the moment I don't have any idea what objects they are. Continue to search their internal informations.

But for your solution: you can select the obect with window selection and copy the selectable objects into a new drawing ==> that new drawing can then be used as your block.

Hi,

i open your drawing to find that there is no blocks there. i convert your attribute elements to a block and find that there is no weird things. please find attached CAD file and forgive me if i don't reach to your point .

Hi

>> Invisible objects.

Yep, correct, DXF-Code 60 is set to 1, which means invisible (>>>details<<<)

<STRIKE>Interesting side info: VBA does not show these objects as invisible ;</STRIKE>(

[EDIT]VBA finds them correctly, don't know why I had a negative result previously [/EDIT]

After having a hell of a time trying to figure out why a certain DWG file was extremely large (received from a collaborator on a project) and ultimately tracking it down to a huge number of "invisible" objects, I now have a check for them in my normal startup. So, I "saw" them as soon as I opened the file.

I also have a simple LISP routine to make them visible, just in case I'm curious enough to want to know what they are before I get rid of them. (But I have a feeling Mr. Brusco will be able to handle that.)

I think they come from exploded dynamic blocks that have/had visibility states.

Hi dmfrazier,

This WAS a dynamic block with visibility states just before the "invisible" objects appeared. Thank you so much for your expert forensic observations that are spot on.

Hi Alfred,

I see your smiling face often as I travel these hallowed halls for answers. Thanks for your input throughout this forum.

Your solution was perfect; copy all selectable objects to the clip board and paste them into a new drawing and save this drawing, overwriting the original.

Thanks for this, another solution from Alfred.
