Why does QSELECT list XREF layers?

I have a drawing with several floorplan XREFs. When I use the QSELECT command to select objects by the layer property, the dialog box lists all the XREF layers (which outnumber my actual working layers five times over).

Additionally, this list isn't sorted by my layers, then the XREF layers; it's sorted alphabetically, meaning depending on how the Xrefs are named, my layers might be spread throughout this list. I can mitigate this by using a consistent prefix, but it's annoying at best.

So far as I know, there is no way to create, select, or modify objects on an XRef layer without opening the XRef (or editing in-place), so listing these layers in this context seems useless. Is there a reason?

Right

Correct

The only reason I can imagine is: Qselect don't need time to verify which layer is in used and what layers not.

But specially of Xref-Layers, it isn't a performance question, that's just because of the programmer and the examiniers had no idea about AutoCAD object selection rules.

@sparker9JZGB Are you not aware you can give your XREF a different name in the top file? So layer sorting is my name, adding a small x to the name pushes your XREF layers to the bottom of the list.

Do you use Layer FILTERS at all?

Yes, I'm aware I can mitigate layer mixing by using prefixes, filters, and renaming XRefs.

My question is specifically why QSELECT behaves this way (and to maybe attract the attention of someone who can properly fix it).
