Need help with adding deviation tolerance

I need some help with adding a deviation tolerance to normal text. I have some lines drawn in paper space that represent a feature on a model in the view port. I need to linear dimension with a deviation tolerance the lines but it obviously isn't the same dimension as the feature it's meant to represent. So when I change the linear dimension (by editing the text and backspacing) then typing for example "2.000" and add a deviation tolerance it doesn't show up (I'm assuming because it is now normal text and not what ever type of special text is created when you dimension). Is there a way to force a deviation tolerance to show up for normal text? Or is there a better way to do this?

BTW I found text over ride but when I over ride text the deviation disappears.

Set a dimension style with the tolerances you need and use that. A dimension applied to an isometric object or edge in AutoCAD will not be its true length, that is the nature of foreshortening in an iso view. Dimension in Model Space or dimension only on orthographic projects of the object in PS, leave iso views without dimensions. (Iso views can be dimensioned correctly but it takes more effort than it is worth and still only works on iso lines.)

I'm not talking about isometric views. The attached pic is what I'm talking about. Detail B is drawn in paper space. I want to have .481 as 2.500 and keep the deviation tolerance. I know I could technically make a viewport for Detail B. But lets say I don't want to make a viewport and then draw my hidden lines etc. over it and just want to trace a feature and scale it up like I did here. How can I do that and still have dimensions be whatever I want them to be and keep the deviation tolerance?

This is also a problem for me when I change my mind about a dimension as I'm doing a layout and want to change it in the layout before I change the model. Of course this is only a problem when I want to keep the deviation tolerance.

Set DIMASSOC to 1 and always use OSNAPS. Also, don't use annotative dims in PS.

Are you saying the 2.5 is the actual dimension in MS, or you are overriding the dimension?

I am just guessing here, post your drawing and maybe we can narrow it down quicker.

Detail B is just lines is paper space representing the model below that's in model space. Since it's in paper space when I use linear dimension it isn't the dimension I want so I override and lose my deviation tolerance.

Here you go... Hope this helps.

1. Go into the Mtext of the dimension on-screen (not in the properties panel).

2. Type a fraction such as 1/2.

3. Highlight the fraction 1/2 and then in the Text Editor Formatting tab click the b/a icon.

4. In the Mtext, click the Autostack lightning bolt (if it doesn't appear just highlight the fraction).

5. Now, click Stack Properties.

6. Type your Upper and Lower tolerances.

7. In the Style select Tolerance.

8. Position choose Center.

9. Text size choose 100%.

Place the dimension using a dimstyle set up to display the tolerance as desired. In the dimstyle modify dialog, change the measurement scale factor to be the same as your scale factor that you applied to your lines that you drew in paperspace.
