Setting migration

Hi,

I just installed Autocad 2018 to my computer, and would like to migrate my custom settings from ver 2017. When I go to select Migrate from Previous Release in the start menu I get the following message: Migrate Profiles requires that AutoCAD 2000 or a later version be installed on your system.

Can someone advise why its not recognizing the 2017 version I still have on my computer?

Hi @Anonymous,

I haven't seen this problem before. When the Migration tool launches does it show your prior release in the window?

You can also perform a manual migration by following the steps in this article.

The migration tool never launched. I get that message immediately after I press Migrate from Previous Version from start menu in Windows.

Let me follow the steps in the link and see how things work out...

Just as guess:

these were not the same "types" of AutoCAD, so one AutoCAD LT and the other one is AutoCAD (full)
or one was a vertical like AutoCAD Architecture and the other one is AutoCAD (Vanilla)
or these were different languages of AutoCAD?

...then the migration can't work.

Nah.., it's none of the above. Both versions are full AutoCAD, and in English.

One thing neglected to mention was that I uninstalled a bunch of 2016 AutoCAD products prior to my AutoCAD 2018 installation. I am thinking..., maybe the uninstallation process somehow deleted a file AutoCAD needs?

Start 2017, open a file, do something, qsave, close it. Does it work?
Start 2018 and do the same.
Now start 2018's Migration tool and see if it can find 2017 again.

Hmm: then something is broken on your PC with the R2017-R2018 installations. You are selecting the migration option from the 2018 installation, not the 2017 install, correct?

What all are you trying to migrate exactly?

Yeah, from the R2018 installation.

I guess I have to do it manually - which I find tedious because I have to export and zip my R2017 settings, load it up in the CUI in R2018 and drag over what I want. Then, I will have to manually move over my plot preference/settings as well... It would be alot easier if I can just migrate....

just curios ... can you please start AutoCAD 2017 and AutoCAD 2018, in both applications start command _ABOUT and show us these 2 screenshots.

I was able to migrate most of it using the link provided by John from earlier posts. Do you know how I can migrate my tool palette manually?

thank you for the images ... and so we now know that you are referring to different products.

Migration does not work across different products (as mentioned above).

OH! Isn't vanilla in 2017 Mechanical the same as Autocad 2017? That is what it says on top of screen above the tabs.... 😄

Just a bit of background, our company got the Design Suit - so it comes with Mechanical, Electrical, Max..etc.... but no AutoCAD(standard). So we had to extract vanilla from within mechanical - I just assume Vanilla is AutoCAD(standard). 🙂

No, it's just a different profile excluding the Mech-commands ,,, and so it looks like AutoCAD, but it's not exactly the same.
