Hi @Jarrod_FDC,

I usually run a virus scan on the files first. Then I keep the clients files all in one place (usually a project folder with a subfolder for received files). Then I copy the fonts and CTB files and such and put them in my normal AutoCAD folder locations. Even after years of doing this I have never found the list of files to get too big. It is important (in my opinion) to keep the original files intact with the project so if I rebuild my system or have to share the data with others, it is all in one location.

I recently received an eTransmit file from a client with many customized SHX files. I am curious how others might go about incorporating the new files into your system. Would you...

a) keep them with the original DWGs from the client and place that folder in your working folder?

b) add them to a separate folder where you keep other customizations?

c) add a folder with these specific SHX files to the existing Support folder and add a new location in OPTIONS>Files?

d) another option that I didn't include above.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Jarrod

a, b, and c are all valid options. It really depends on what you expect to do with the fonts.

I think I am going to keep them with the working folder since I have 3 techs that will need access to them when working on the drawings, at least for now. I really don't want everyone (or likely myself) have to install all these fonts in the Support folder. I have a backup of the file in a completely different location anyway.

If client is one-off, keep files in working folder.
Occasional client - Create your own "Support" folder and add support path.
Frequent client - Create a "Support" folder on server and add support path
to each workstation that will view client's file.

As a side note, if you already have your very own "Support" folder with an
associated support path, no need to load, just place the files in this folder.

Please do not dump the fonts (and other files) in the OOTB AutoCAD folder system.

As for TTF, each workstation will require loading.

???
