Hi @Anonymous,

Since you plan to do this manually, can you not edit the original dimension and just add the text as req'd?

Or, am I missing what your intent is on this question?

Hi and Welcome to AutoCAD Forum,

>> I need to add a second line of dimension showing a pre-coating ID with tolerance and alt dims. <<

i suggest to try from DDIM command the Alternate Units for your dimension style ( see below image) .

Regards,

Thank you John,

That is not what I am hoping to do.

I would like to have the same format for both dims.

The work around I have found for now, and I do not like doing this,

Explode my dim and copy below in the mtext window and paste then manually change the pre-coat dim and tolerance and alt units. I then have the same format and can fit in the dim lines.

I am trying to find a better way because I do not like not having associative dims but I will take what I can get. Eventually we will move all these old drawings to solid modelling software but till then I am stuck.

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for the additional detail. Have you considered a dynamic block with fields? I am thinking you could place the first dimension on a non-plot layer. Then use a dynamic block that captures the dimension value in one field and then allows you to either manually enter the second value or create a formula to place in a second field as well as enter tolerances in additional fields. If this sounds like it might be a possibility, I can move this thread to the Dynamic Blocks forum so you can get some assistance in building the block to met your expectations.

This is a crude example but maybe it will get you started.
