Unable to add multiple sheets in Sheetsets with File Stream

Hello,

I've been using AutoCAD for a few years now and I've encountered this issue for the first time. I am currently unable to add multiple sheets in the sheet set manager unless I have them open.

And it is also the same issue when publishing. If I don't have the sheet open, it will not be added into the list, no matter how many times I try.

I believe this might be some pathing issue since we switched from Google Drive to Drive File Stream and it started happening right after.

Please let me know if anyone else has experience this issue and if you were able to resolve it.

In the meantime, I guess I'll have to manually add each sheet. Thanks.

HI @luis,

I haven't yet had time to play with the new Google File Stream.

When did you first start seeing this problem as it appears that today they are having some stability problems.

If you create a local SheetSet I assume this functionality is behaving normally.

I saw this as soon as I started utilizing File Stream. I haven't had the
chance to create a local sheet set to see if that is the issue, but I'll
give it a try.

You were correct. If I create a local sheetset, I have no issues adding
sheets as long as the files are local as well.

I have been asking around the office and some other tech's have seen problems with this service and AutoCAD as well. It is not a supported configuration but I will see if I can get some sort of account on the service to see if I can give you some answers.

If I am able to gain access, I might need more details on how you have this setup in the service. In the mean time, you might post on their forums to see if you can get some help from Google on this issue.

We moved to Google FileStream... too soon it seems. AutoCAD sheet sets (that we use extensively) simply don't work with FileStream. And while XREF's work, you can't open the xref by double-clicking them.

Google's suggestion was to change all files from .dwg to .dxf. My how we laughed.

Currently are having to copy whole directories from FileStream to a temporary location on the hard drive so we can print drawings using AutoCAD sheets.

Thanks for the input. It sounds like a bad experience so far. When you installed the FileStream did you also install the Backup and Sync option? Perhaps the combination will get you closer to a solution.

We will look into that but the whole idea was to move to Team Drives, and "When you access Google Drive on your computer, you see My Drive. You can find Team Drives only in Drive on the web.*" so it seems it is not an option....

I am Program Manager at my company and have been tasked with getting rid of our server and moving everything to the "cloud" (Google Drive File Stream) I have found that when the first Engineer creates a file and places it the Team Folder, another Engineer can open and edit the document. There seems to be an amount of time that must pass though, or a new and different version of the file is created. For instance, Test.File.dwg might become Test.File.dwg(1) and there will now be 2 competing files, the original and the one with the edit. This does not happen all the time though, there seems to be an amount of time (of yet which I have not calculated) from which the file can be edited and no competing file is made. The only other comment I can make is we tried to move a file, that had been created in the Google Drive File Stream/ Team Drive, to the Personal Drive (My Drive) (to keep if from being worked on by other Engineers) and doing that corrupts the file, even when moved back to the Team (shared) Drive. Do you have any suggestions for us? Thank you.

I must apologize that in my personal mail to you I discussed Microsoft Teams but I see that you are using Google Drive/Team. I have seen some other customers using that service and they have reported similar issues as well as problems with SheetSets in that environment. This is really an issue with the Google service and suggest that your pursue your questions in their forums.

I hope that those other AutoCAD customers can help to provide any solutions that have found from Google to make this service more compatible with AutoCAD and your work flow.

One work around that appears to work for some users of the service is to re-enable the local sync but that seems to me to defeat the purpose of collaboration in the cloud.

We are having this problem too now.

We are using business / enterprise version of Google Drive, now Google File Stream. Unfortunately, Google is shutting down support for Google Drive with the G Suite business software. It appears that File Stream and AutoCAD Sheet Set Manager are not compatible with each other.

This is the only function that no longer works for us in AutoCAD and any other program.

Anyone working on a solution, or are people moving to cloud-based computing going to keep running into this problem?

Hello Dan,

Unfortunately, I have not been able to figure it out yet. Google support sends me to Autodesk and Autodesk support, in turn sends me back to Google and I get no clear answer there. The only way I have been able to work around it is to have all the sheets I need to add to the sheet set manager open at the same time.

Hi @luis,

Thanks for the information. This is going to be tricky to resolve. AutoCAD is supported on the local computer (if it meets system requirements) and is supported on Windows networks. There are a few other options including running on Citrix.

I have seen numerous posts regarding similar issues and I would personally hesitate from using the service until this gets sorted out. Have you tried their more traditional sync? That too can be a bit tricky but seems to work in many cases.

We concluded that there was no work-around and had to give up on
FileStream.

We use "Backup and Sync" instead (pretty much the old Google drive).

Yes, that has been my experience as well.

Do you know if Google will still support "Backup and Sync" + AutoCAD if you are using their Business software? I'll have to do some research.

Has anyone made any progress or found any solutions yet?

I was just booted from google drive which worked perfectly for me with AutoCAD and had to download Drive file stream. The very next time I went to publish (batch plot) multiple sheets within a file, CAD becomes unresponsive and eventually needs to be closed.

For now I am able to plot individual sheets to PDF and then combine them into multiple sheet files with Adobe, that however will get old really fast.

Im back to report that my issue has been solved.

I downloaded "Backup and sync" and then deleted "Drive file stream"

Problem solved and everything is working as it used to.

I haven't been seeing this issue in a while, apparently mine resolved on
its own. I did change my pc, so maybe because I had to reinstall the whole
thing any fixes where automatically applied.

Are you using FileStream?

We (and others) have resolved the FileStream issue by rolling back to
Backup and Synch from Google. We'd really like to move on to use
FileStream but only if it works with AutoCAD.
