Hello to all,

I have some object and I have created an view port with object in the center of the view port. If I try to move object in model space, view port must follow the change and prevent that object goes outside of the view port border. Is it somehow possible to lock position of object on view port? Please see attache video.

Locking of the model in the model space is not a good solution for me cause other user always can remove lock constraint and move the object.

P.S. If it is helpful for the solution, I can create a block from object so maybe insertion point can be followed by view port somehow?

Best,

Danijel

So , Is it possible to update position of the view port? I believe it's possible to be done programmatically so I will try to find solution.

I thought something like this:

Get block insertion point (which will be placed in the center of the whole object or geometry)

Get coordinates of the current VP

Set coordinates o the VP according to block insertion point

Replace old coordinates of the VP with new coordinates

Update VP and layout

As far as I know this is not possible.

Without worrying about programming you can use the view command, save the view with a name, where it is now,

move your object to its new position, save the view again with a new name

In your paperspace viewport layout, once inside the viewport, you can restore these named views.

in general ... when a drawing set in model space , nobody have the right to move it any where because this action will destroy all attached xref files and any other linked dwg files. i think that you have here a permissions issue for others to what to do or not .

File is already on Autodesk Vault and some group of users have possibility to modify the drawing in model space which will of course reflect on the layouts.

When user has possibility to edit drawing, he is able to move objects in the model space? I believe it can't be prevented using permissions, am I right?

I can lock object but for user it is easy to break constraint.

You and these other users probably need to be talking to each other: you are looking for a software solution to a workflow and cad management problem. There is no fix, since whatever you do to lock they can do the reverse to unlock as well.

If you don't have the authority, talk to a supervisor or director that does and you all start working in CAD standards you all must follow.

Good luck.
