Appreciate your reply.

I didn't think so or they would have already done it. The "mouse/crosshairs" recognize and display different "badges" when the mouse is over, say, an annotative object. Seems like they'd be able to recognize that "property" as well when the mouse is over a that region. If the mouse recognizes that property then set the anno scale (and/or apply it to all the selected objects). I believe you are 100% correct though. It would take a talented programmer.

guess i'm getting kinda lazy. I get tired of drawing 4 or 5 things at 3/8" scale and then go, Ya know, that'd be better at 3/4". not only that, I get tired of forgetting to switch scales (in drawings that have 3 or 4 different scales) and then have to go back change things again. At any rate, thanks again for the reply.

How can I draw 2 (or more) rectangular areas next/close to each other, say 36"x24" and assign an anno scale to each region such that when I mouse over those regions the anno scale automatically changes to the anno scale set for that region? I would like to "drag/drop" drawing objects with an anno scale already set onto those regions and have all those entities automatically adopt the anno scale for that region?

as an example, suppose I have a line object with an associated dimension and the dimension was placed at 3/8"=1'-0". I would like to drag/drop that line and dimension into a rectangular area/region that has a predefined anno scale, say 3"=1'-0" and have the dimension automatically inherit the 3"-1'-0" dimension from the region.

is there a lisp or arx out there anyone knows of?

I'm not aware of any such program already out there. it would be very complex and most likely not something anyone would write for free. You could look in the AutoCAD apps store and see if someone wrote something already.

why not draw it at 1:1 then use a paperspace viewport to set the scale? If you have annotative dimensions/text, they should change based on the scale of your viewport.

Not sure what you mean. I draw everything at "true size" and use paperspace viewports set to whatever annotation scale. if I draw dimensions 1:1 they'd awful tiny in model space... correct? if the viewport isn't set to the proper scale then the 1:1 dimensions wouldn't display... Perhaps you can clarify. i'm sure don't understand what you mean.

years ago, I used to put dimensions and text exclusively in paperspace. That was actually nice, particularly 5 years later when I had to modify that drawing and switch scales... there were no dimensions and text in the way, just the line work. all I had to do was modify the line work and annotate. That worked kinda good actually, but others who worked on the drawing didn't like not having the dimensions and text "readily available" in model space.
