Thank you. The REGENALL does get fix the issue. The blocks were originally created on my old AUTOCAD 2007 LT. Created a template for work with all machine blocks and such that I am now opening up in my 2018 version and using. Is this where my problem could be?

When I insert a block and then attempt to move or copy the block somewhere else in the drawing there is an image of the block in the original position that can not be selected or deleted. What is this issue and how can I fix it? This causes headaches when doing floor plans.

Hi @Anonymous,

I was able to duplicate this action and a REGENALL fixes the display issue. I will investigate how the block is built too as I suspect that problem lies there.

[Edit] OK, the "block" is actually not a block at all but a group. If you use the OVERKILL command and select with a window the "block" it will remove all the extra entities. You can then make it a block if you desire.

I am not sure why it leaves the display remnant but it should be fixed when you make the block correctly.

Dean,

Thank you for looking into this. the REGENALL command fixes it by updating it, but I seem to be having issue with the blocks themselves and not opening. I originally created this template in AUTOCAD 2007LT and now using 2018 version so this could be causing problems and I need update my blocks somehow.

Hi @Anonymous,

Generally there should be no issue in using your old template(s) in newer versions of AutoCAD. However, if there are errors in your template they should be cleaned out before you start using them for new drawings.

How many other blocks do you need to fix? Are the blocks contained in your template? Would you like me to look at them too?

Hi @Anonymous,

Your template showed errors in it too. I suggest running AUDIT on it too.

The blocks in it seem to work OK but I question why some of the insertion points are far away from the geometry and why so much of the geometry is not assigned to bylayer. Setting properties such as linetype and color will allow the block to display properties from the layer it was inserted upon rather than being "hard-coded". This would give you a lot more flexibility.

At any rate, the blocks appear to work fine for me although I did not test them all. Have you considered making a Block Library file instead of having all of this in a template file? You could use Design Center to insert the blocks into project files and you could even drop them into a tool palette to make the process even easier.

Hi @Anonymous,

I am glad you are teaching yuourself as this is often times the best approach. Please focus on cleaning up your blocks first and let me know if you need any assistance with that part.

The block library is just a drawing(s) that remains in a fixed location so you can access it easily. I made a quick video for you that shows how to insert a block from your drawing template file into a different file. IF this looks useful, once your blocks are cleaned up then place them in a unique drawing file and you can use it as your library. The next step if you like, is to copy the blocks into a tool palette to make then even easier to access.

I hope my video helps. Please start a new thread for any specific additional questions and I will jump in to help.
