Hatch library problem

I tried to add some hatch patterns to the existing library, following a youtube vid, & somethings gone wrong, Ive attached the messages I receive when I try to use a hatch pattern

Any help please

Hi,

try to open the hatch file and make sure that you have matching hatch name with the file itself .

If you added pattern definitions to the end of AutoCAD's file, make sure you ended up with a blank line at the end. That is, if in the file in a plain-text editor such as Notepad, when you press Ctrl+End to get to the very end of the file, you should be on an empty line at the bottom, not at the end of a last line containing code. If the latter, hit Enter to get a blank line at the end, save the file, and try again. [You may need to close and re-open the drawing, or get into another one, or possibly even re-start AutoCAD, to get it to re-load the file.]

Some of your messages are about its not being able to find the acadiso.pat file. Try [in a drawing] typing (findfile "acadiso.pat") to see whether it's in a location in the Support File Search Path list [OPTIONS command, Files tab].

Ive just restarted & went Tools-Options & removed the path to the hatch ( which is on my portable hard drive) & then put it back & this message appears on start up

That means that the hatch pattern has a shape in it and it doesn't know where the shape is. Is there a certain hatch you were trying to use? Maybe someone has a working version of it. Maybe the one you downloaded is just broken. I've downloaded plenty that were who knows how old or made in what version that didn't work or seemed incomplete.

That's not a Hatch-related issue [Hatch pattern definitions can't have Shapes embedded in them], but a Text and/or Linetype issue.

Ahh. I knew linetypes, but I never tried to put a shape in a hatch so didn't realize it wasn't possible.

Find or get the needed .SHX file(s), and either put it [or them] in a location that's in the Support File Search Path list [OPTIONS command dialog box, Files tab, top item], or add the location where it is [or they are] to that list.

If you choose the "Specify a replacement..." option in that message box, it should inform you of the specific file(s) you need to find.

Did you download a few things and try them in the drawing. Then they didn't work correctly so you delete the files you downloaded. The objects are still in the drawing, but the shx was in the file you deleted in the support path so it can't find it now. That's a possible way it could happen.

Right I've downloaded the hatches into autocad, watched another youtube vid, but there are no hatches available not even the factory set ones,

acadiso.pat cant find file - ok

no standard patterns available - ok

error in reading the pattern file- ok

acadiso.pat cant find file-ok

unable to open file acadiso.pat, error 1- ok

then i I come to the Hatch gradient box with no hatch patterns

[I'm not sure what the "ok" indications mean after your error messages.] For the can't-find-file one, Search in the Windows Explorer for files anywhere with .pat filetype endings -- could acadiso.pat have been moved to a different folder? If you find it in a Support File Search Path location, and the error is within the file, you may have done something wrong in adding pattern definitions to it, and you may need to restore the original. [I hope the YouTube video advised you to make a copy of the original under a different name.]

If you screwed up your paths and can't get it figured out you can always reset autocad back to defaults to start fresh. If you have lots of custom settings it can be a pain to do this but if you don't have much custom stuff it's probably an easy fix to start over.

This is what I've just done & loaded the hatches again & everything works, one other thing unrelated, in paper space how do I change from portrait to landscape

Go to a layout tab, then right click the tab and go to page setup manager and click modify button. Then see my image.
